Male vs. Manual 1911.

The Crimsons shelled the Purples 19-3 in nine innings at Manual Park on May 6, 1911.

(Yep, Male and Bowling Green were both originally known simply as "High School" and their team names were both "The Purples".)

'47 was a busy season for a few of these "Boys of Summer." Feld and Augsback were State tennis doubles finalists; Feld and Trieschman, State tennis semifinalists. Busiest of all was Spring, three-sport star Garrard, who played tennis, baseball, and placed 4th in the 200 yd. low hurdles at the state track meet.

Side notes, re: tennis ~

• As mentioned, many of B-town's finest athletes from previous generations had tennis on their resumes. Future NKU tennis coach Roger Klein built the Tigers into a small school tennis powerhouse, one the best in Kentucky and tri-state history. Several players wearing the black and yellow would win state titles, play collegiately and professionally, and follow Klein into the coaching ranks.

 • The '47 State Tennis Tournament was held on the clay courts at Bellevue's Gilligan Stadium Complex, one of a handful of years the Tigers hosted the state's finest netters.
