But the boys 10th Region POY as selected by the boys 10th Region Coaches' Association is a junior, so there's that; and they selected him as a soph last year. Looks like the coaches' association decided that someone who had only played 13 games wasn't their first choice. Do others (media, past winners, etc.) have a say in it when it comes to nominations for Ms. Basketball? I don't know.

Do others (media, past winners, etc.) have a say in it when it comes to nominations for Ms. Basketball? I don't know. 1) Miss/Mr. Basketball finalists and Region Players of the Year are voted on differently. a. For the Miss/Mr. from the 10th Region for example, there are 15 candidates, one from each school. Coaches vote for one specific winner. They are all 1st place votes. b. POY voting is "ranked choice" selection. There is a greater pool of candidates for opposing coaches to vote on. Coaches are nominating their players to fill 15 spots on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd All-Region Teams. The remaining candidates are HMs. Think of POY voting like AP poll voting. The #1 team is based on a total number of points *not* 15 - 1st place votes. * Method "a" results made Mya Meredith a Miss Basketball finalist. Method "b" results made Marie Kiefer the 10th Region Player of the Year. Two different voting methodologies - two different results. "A" does not always equal "B " 2) For a player to win an award playing only part of a season? Two words. Dontaie. Allen. Precedent: Allen played 13 games for Pendleton Co. in 2018-'19. He won 10th Region POY *and* was the Mr. Basketball award winner.
