LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After opening the season with wins in its first 12 games, University of Louisville women's basketball made history on Monday afternoon when they moved up to No. 1 in the latest Associated Press poll.

It marks the first time in program history that the Cardinals have been ranked No. 1 in the AP poll.

"It's a great honor," head coach Jeff Walz said. "Obviously it doesn't do you anything come March, but it's something that we're proud of, because we have sustained something here for 14 years. It's been a lot of hard work and we've had a lot of great players and a great staff. And not only do we win some ballgames, but I think we win our community, we win in public. Our players are wonderful young women that represent our athletic department to the fullest."

NKY native Jeff Walz has been building towards this for many years now. With the lack of parity in women's hoops, this is a great accomplishment for his program. They have a legit squad this year and are a blast to watch, as are most of Walz' Cardinal teams.

Kentucky girls?

Dana is from Gary, IN and Haley is from Washington State.

There are only two girls from Kentucky on the roster... Freshman Malea Williams (Scott County) and Junior Mykasa Robinson (Ashland).
