Taylor County 29 Green County 6

Featured Replies

This was actually a really good game. Taylor marched right down the field on the opening possession and looked to be ready to blow Green County out, but the Dragons defense held Taylor to nothing the rest of the half and really dominated much of the first half. Taylor had the lead 7-6 at the half but Green County really missed some chances to take a lead before the half after driving the field before turning it over on downs.

Taylor came out in the second half and again scored quickly, but again the dragons defense tightened up and held Taylor scoreless the rest of the third quarter and we had a 15-6 game going into the fourth quarter. The dragons gave up another score around the 6 minute mark and that pretty much sealed the deal. Taylor scored a late touchdown with about 2 minutes to go for the final margin. Green County really looked to wear down the last 8 minutes of the game, looked like they had a ton of guys out with injury and just ran out of gas.

Green County looked much improved, and I was pretty impressed with Taylor. They are fast and get after you on defense, and Oliver is as fast as any back in the area. Really good game to watch from the stands.

Green Co must be a whole lot better than they have been the last 5 or 6 years.

I would agree with them being much better. Taylor is the best team they will play all year, or I would assume so, and I could see the dragons winning the district if they can keep the kids healthy and play at that level.

They had some really untimely penalties, a few that were questionable that killed drives in the red zone or big 40 to 50 yard plays. The game was much much closer than the final score shows. I'm not sure if that shows more about Green or Taylor honestly.

Or maybe a little of both that’s generally how it turns out Green is probably better and Taylor may not be what they’ve been the last two years.

Don’t forget no one has scrimmaged and teams have had about three weeks of practice. I’d guess very few teams are game ready at this time, which could lead to some peculiar results.

I absolutely agree with you gchs_uk9. The odd thing with this game was how well Taylor actually played. I believe they had a freak injury turnover and that was it. They also had very few penalties. For having such a short time to get ready, they played a very clean game.

Green County on the other hand, had multiple penalties, multiple turnovers and that was ultimately the difference in the game. Along with Taylor having a very big advantage in the player numbers. I believe Green County only had around 25-30 kids dressed for the game.
