Oldham County vs South Oldham Predictions/Updates (29th District Champnship)

29th District Championship

Where: Trimble County HS

#13 Oldham County (27-3) vs. South Oldham (22-8)

Regular season: Oldham Co 64 South Oldham 59 at SOHS

Should be a tremendous game in Bedford as Oldham and South meet in the district finals for the fifth consecutive season. Oldham County has won four of those meetings, but South Oldham is the defending champ, having defeated Oldham last year in the title game by 5 points.

There are numerous similarities:

Both teams are among the highest scoring teams in the 8th region; South leads the region at over 77 points per game. Oldham is third at about 70 ppg.

Both teams are superb free throw shooting teams; with both teams shooting over 70% at the line as a team.

Both teams boast deep benches with players who can come off the bench and score.

Both teams' coaches have been immensely successful in their current job. South's Steve Simpson is in his 20th season and is by far and away the winningest coach in South history. Simpson has led the Dragons to three region titles in the past 7 years.

Oldham's Coy Zerhusen is in his 7th season, and during that time has led the Colonels to 5 district titles and 1 region title. Zerhusen is the winningest coach in the 8th region during his tenure at Oldham.

Oldham's defense may be a little better; the Colonels excel at full-court and half-court pressure defense for 32 minutes. As a result, Oldham has allowed the second-fewest points per game among the 18 teams in the 8th region.

Both teams are solid beyond the arc, but that's where South has their advantage. Oldham is very good beyond the arc; South is one of the elite three point shooting teams in the state, hitting nearly 42% beyond the arc and featuring several players who can shoot the three consistently.

I'll post updates as I can throughout the game.

This should be a packed gym in Bedford tonight. Trimble County HS is just 30 minutes north from either school.

Lots and lots of questions to be answered....if anything like the regular season battle in Crestwood - a five point Oldham victory - then this may not be aesthetically pleasing, but it will be vastly entertaining.

OC wins, but it will be a good one.

Throw the records and their previous game out the window. This should be another good one. Won’t be any snow on the roof of Trimble County’s gym tonight.
