atalltexan
School goes back to 1902. Info I have is: 2005-06: Lee Edwards (9-15) 1990-04: Rick Fisher (129-54-0) 1982-89: ????????? 1972-81: John Hina (??-??) 1929-71: Ty Holland (249-159-28) Perhaps Holland started the program. westsider
Tony Franklin coached Murray in the early 80s, then Jack Cain took over after he was hired away from a school in Tennessee. Not sure of the exact years, though.

atalltexan
I will see what they have. Thanks Well, no luck. They don't have the info, so I tried Coach Carr, the AD at the high school. No luck there, either, but he did know a former administrator with the school who he thought was compiling the info. Spoke with him (Roy Weatherly), and he has the info from 1925-present. Has to dig it out. Said they have actually been playing since 1902. Also said that their is another Coach between Hina and Franklin, for one year. Will post the details once I get them. atalltexan
Ok, spent an hour on the phone last night with a former principal (and informal historian) for Murray. He helped me tighten up the info and go back a little farther. He confirmed that football goes back to at least 1902. He had partial info from 1912-14, 1917, 1919 and 1922, but steady numbers from 1924 to the present. Here are the details: 2005-06: Lee Edwards (9-15) 1990-04: Rick Fisher (129-54-0) 1986-89: Jack Cain (26-17) 1983-85: Tony Franklin (16-14) ---1982: Tony English (6-6) 1974-81: John Hina (53-41-1) 1930-73: Ty Holland (249-159-28) ---1929: Jack Gardner (4-6) 1925-28: Ted Sanford (18-20-1) ---1924: Sam Miller (3-4-3) ---1923: ??????? ---1922: Clyde Philbeck (2-4-1) 1920-21: ??????? ---1919: ????(1-0) ---1918: ?????? ---1917: ????(0-1) 1915-16: ??????? ---1914: ????(1-1) 1912-13: Coach McReynolds (5-7) 1902-11: ??????? Total record comes to 522-349-34. Missing at least 90 games from the early years, so even with a .500 record in that period, they are probably over 550 wins all-time. I am going to contact the local paper again. Perhaps with the bulk of research already done for them, they will be more interested in digging further. bugatti
atalltexan, I believe the record books I looked at only had records back to Jack Gardner (or maybe just to Holland). Murray celebrated its 500th win in school history just 3 or 4 seasons ago... apparently that mark was surpassed a few years prior, according to your records. Nice work and I apologize for not being more help than I was.

Hopefully we'll run across someone with further data.
