Can one person's vote get a kid on the team?

 

Well one of the issues at hand here is that the nomination process is such a cluster. Players aren't on the list to be voted for in the first place until one of the AP writers from around the state nominates them to be voted for. Up in post #6 you can go to a thread about the AP All-State Team last year that includes a link to an article from Aaron Snyder of the Ashland Daily Independent. Snyder explained how the AP does an absolutely woeful job of notifying writers when the All-State nomination and voting windows are opened and closed, so oftentimes (like in the case of all the Warren County/Bowling Green players this year), you'll see where a whole region worth of players aren't nominated to be voted for on the All-State Team.

 

So, for example, Breathitt County had a DB make Honorable Mention for the All-State Team this year, yet the AP writer from Warren County/Bowling Green apparently didn't nominate anyone, and as a result Bowling Green High School's Vito Tisdale (one of the top college recruits in the class of 2020) wasn't even nominated, and thereby didn't make 1st Team, 2nd Team, or Honorable Mention. Supposing he was nominated...then one of the guys on the 1st or 2nd team would logically end up being bumped down to Honorable Mention, and then one of the DB's on the current list of Honorable Mentions (perhaps Breathitt County's DB) would be bumped off the Honorable Mention list.

 

That's just one example, and that doesn't begin to address the fact that voting turnout and voter distribution from region to region is also an issue. Plus....add in the fact that - as is being alluded to in the discussion above - Fletcher Long works for two AP outlets, and thereby would be able to influence or even directly cast two votes, not just one.

Scrolling through BGP threads today and came up on this one again. I'm still in total shock that a couple of great players in the state weren't even mentioned on this team although they were mentioned on every other All State/All Star team voted this year. I'm even more shocked that there's a player or two (who literally popped up out of nowhere) all of a sudden became 1st and 2nd team All Staters on this team but can't be found anywhere else.

 

On a side note, in my honest opinion, I think the BGP All State Team was better than the AP, CJ, or any of the other 2019-2020 All State/All Star teams voted on this year. I'd take BGP's 36 players any day of the week over any of the other teams. It was more accurate, it wasn't political, and I'm pretty sure no Daddies were involved and allowed to cast multiple votes, Lol!

 

Whoever was on the committee to select the BGP team, kudos on doing an outstanding job of taking the time to do the necessary research in selecting the Top 36 players in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to the best of your ability and for being honest and fair in doing so. Great work!
