Highlands 71 Newport 58

Yes the slant on social media is taking away from a great game! I think "mishearing" crowd chants is always a problem. What one student section is cheering can become "jumbled" by the time it is heard on the other side of a gym.

What was the actual cheer that got jumbled and mistaken as something controversial?

The incident in question occurred as the buzzer sounded and one official looking right at it. They are lucky that more did not occur. Sam Vinson had just put an exclamation point on the victory with a two handed dunk and on the ensuing defensive possession as time expired was forcefully pushed by number 55 of Newport. I know Listerman burned the ear of Rick Atkins, but should have let Rod Snapp know what had occurred.

The whole student section thing was nonsense. Perfect example of today’s society and how people are viewed because of what they look like. What happens on social media cannot be controlled by school administrators, but what happens in the stands at the game can and Highlands had more than enough administrators there to monitor the situation.

Now on to the next game for both teams as each has another tough opponent. Hopefully these teams meet again in the District for the chance to pay in the Regional tournament.
