I think it was meant to speed up the game. For example, if A has the ball in the front court and there is then a loose ball and A1 fouls B1, there are no shots even though the bonus is in effect. That is correct, this rule is now the new "Team control" rule. If your team is in control of the ball and your team fouls (illegal screen, hold, etc.), there are no shots taken. If the team doesn't put a player in the book and enters him into the game, That is an indirect technical. It is not a team foul but is a technical.
