Contentious, high-intensity contest in Fort Thomas on Thursday night.

 

Highlands shot lights out throughout, knocking down nine 3-Pointers, five by Luke Muller,and four by Hunter Ahlfeld.

 

After being tied at 8s early on, the Birds outscored the Mustangs 8-2 to take a 16-10 first quarter lead, and pushed the lead to 33-23 at intermission.

 

The Mustangs could trim only a single point off of the deficit in the third period, down 45-36 going into the final stanza

 

Brossart blue-chip senior Ethan Eilerman put his team on his shoulders in the final period, and despite being outscored 5-0 to start the frame, saw Eilerman score 13 of his game-high 28 points in that quarter, drawing the Mustangs to within three at 55-52 with 3:21 to play in the game. In those final minutes the Birds remained hot from the perimeter, and capitalized upon several key Brossart miscues to hold the visitors at bay, with the final score of 65-58.

 

The Birds put four players in double-figures led by Luke Muller with 20. Hunter Ahlfeld added 13, Sam Vinson 11, and Bryson Cody 10. We were all very impressed with the assist work being done by Sam Vinson, who is a wizard in his ability to find an open shooter.

Brossart sophomore big man David Govan put up 10 points in only his third varsity start.

 

The Bluebirds freshmen won 43-37. Highlands' Cody Kramer and Brossart's Evan Orth shared scoring honors with 20 points each.

 

The Bird JVs layed over our guys 69-33.

 

Brossart will welcome the region's second ranked Beechwood Tigers Monday night in Alexandria, while he Birds host Holy Cross on that same date.

 

With the win the Birds improve to 2-0, 1-0, while the Mustangs fall to 1-2 0-2.
