That's another problem I see. The other side of that is that if you're in a really good district, another good team is going to be eliminated in the second round. I'm ok with that, but this season for instance in 3A, Ashland and Russell are both in the top 6 in RPI, yet one of them will be eliminated in the second round. I could see this scene atop leading to some really weak third round games.

 

Im not sure that that is as big a problem as perhaps at first glance. Most of the classes seem to have at least a few districts with two decent teams. 3A for example, you get either Ashland/Russell, Desales/CAL/Mercer, Glasgow/Taylor, Bardstown/Elizabethtown. I think there is enough to keep round 3 pretty strong whomever emerges.

When you put it that way it doesn't seem to be that big of an issue this year in 3A. I'm not sure about the other classes though as there is a lot of parity in 3A this season. In other words I could see it being an issue going forward.

No, but I think it should. More data the better.

 

The reason it is frozen after regular season is because the 1 seed beating the 4 seed would almost automatically hurt the 1's seed RPI. They didn't schedule the weaker team, but was dictated.
