That was the year they got beat by Crittenden County in the playoffs. Beechwood fans often comment that the years Beechwood has a team that probably would beat Mayfield, Mayfield gets beat before they get to Beechwood. Beechwood won the state title in 2008 and beat Crittenden County 34-0 in the semifinals.

 

The way Beechwood feels toward Mayfield is the exact way Mayfield feels toward Danville. I believe Mayfield is 1-10 all time vs. Danville. We always say when we are good enough to beat them they are too down to even make it deep enough in the playoffs to play us.

 

In 2005 Mayfield had a pretty stout team that ended up losing to NCC in the championship. That year undefeated Bardstown beat Danville to make it to the Semis and came to Mayfield where Mayfield beat them 35-21. Danville had beat Mayfield in the semis the 2 consecutive years prior and the year after that in 2006.

 

In 2007 KY went to 6 classes and Danville moved up to 2A. They were in separate classes until Mayfield moved up in 2015. In 2015 and 2018 Mayfield would have almost 100% surely beat Danville but Danville didn't make it to the championship. In 2017 Danville had an amazing year and you guessed it, beat Mayfield in the State Championship game.

All of this talk of Beechwood would have beat Mayfield. I'm by no means a Mayfield fan, but I have 1 question for y'all. Has Beechwood ever beaten Mayfield? Mayfield is a force whenever they walk on the field.

 

I'm not saying Mayfield isn't a force. Beechwood isn't a cupcake either. All I'm saying is that those teams who beat Mayfield got destroyed by Beechwood the following week.
