Wow, imagine how good this team could be right now with Aubrey Hill. Russell has been pretty impressive without her.

It got tight there at the end, but the Lady Devils prevailed. Sanders (19 pts, 16 rebs) and Steele (17 pts) came up big tonight. Steele snagged a monster offensive board and turned it into an and-1 during a crucial 15-0 run by Russell in the second half. She's fearless, tough, and usually the quickest player on the court. She's also 5'4" and a seventh grader. Kaeli Ross didn't have her best game and Russell still managed to get it done against a good West Carter team.

 

They'll be up against it tomorrow, assuming Boyd dispatches Lewis County like everyone's expecting them to. But as Ashland's boys reminded us against Elliott County the other night, anything can happen during March madness. The region favorite's got to earn it just like anyone else. So make them earn it. Russell's got to believe they can win and bring their A game. Go out and give'em hell tomorrow, ladies.
