Elliott County vs Georgetown, OH

Featured Replies

Is it just me or does anyone else think the Elliot County fans consistently overrate their team? Sure, they are a nice little team, and the Faulkners and Fergusons are great competitors, but lets keep it real. Georgetown would not be a top 4 team in the 16th and the best Elliot County can hope to do this year is win the 16th region all A, they will have their hands full with Rose Hill who got pasted by Mason County last night. They will probally get their first reality check when they play Russell in the ekc tournament at Elliot County.

or maybe its just me:rolleyes:

Doesn't Russell have several who are still playing football? If so, Russell may not hit full stride before end of January and Elliott will probably handle them in the EKC.

Russell does have a couple of players playing football but none of them are "anticipated" starters. Jacob Sizemore is one of them and he will definitely be a contributor once in basketball shape but he'll have a hard time displacing a new face on Russell's team, transfer Austin Robinson, as a starter. Kasey Clark may or may not come out but he wasn't on last year's Regional Champs anyway. Russell will be at full stride (whatever that means) when they play Elliott and it should be a great game. At the Russell intersquad scrimmage I saw the other night, Vanhoose looked D1 with his game, Gill's added about a half foot to his vertical along with more height and weight and was dunking the ball like a D1 player, 6' 6" Turner was running the court like a guard, Austin Blair was pushing the ball up the court like a man possesed, and Robinson was about as scrappy a player as I've seen in the 16th Region. I have a ton of respect for Elliott's players as I watched all 3 of their Regional games last year in Morehead, but I still like Russell's chances for at least one more year.

Ok, my bad, and thanks for the clarification. I thought several were playing football. As for full stride, seems like I remember Russell getting off to a slow start last year until they got the football players back and then got a head of steam in January and didn't look back.

You care to state why this is the best they can hope for coming off a regional runnerup season?

Look it up in the dictionary

Biggest problem they have is that they don't match up with Russell at any position, Rebounding and defense will be the difference in all of their losses this year

Actually Comet, you were right on when you look at the past couple of years where Russell has gotten off to a slow start for a number of reasons. Two years ago, they were more dependent on football players, Kasey Clark, to be specific. There were some early season suspensions to go along with that as well. Last year, Austin Blair doesn't start the season because of mono and there were a couple of football players Russell needed badly. This season will be the first in several years that Russell is a) not waiting (needing) football players immediately and b) everyone seems to be healthy. Should be interesting.

You talk how Elliott's fan are overrating them, but yet you have already handed Russell anothner regional championship. Last year it was Elliott County that had Russell in a panic in the regional championship game. Elliott COunty will match up with Russell better than most teams in the region.

Vanhoose aganist Faulkner-Hoose was held under his average last year in the regional championship by the same player who will be guarding him this year.

Blair aganist Faulkner- It was the same player who caused over 5 turnovers in last years regional championship.

Ferguson aganist Gill- Ferguson will give up some size but very little athleticism.

Maynard aganist Siezemore/Robinson- Maynard has improved his defense this year, and is not overmatched at all with either match-up.

Turner aganist Greene- Lets me start by saying Turner is no where near 6'6. He may be 6'4 at the most. Greene and Turner will play identical games, bangers under the basket whose main reasoning for playing is rebounding purposes.

I am in no means saying that Elliott County can or will beat Russell. I am stating though that Russell has won nothing so far, and in Elliott County, a regional championship is the goal. :thumb:

Also, did I misunderstand, or did someone post Rose Hill "got past" Mason County? Cause they didnt.

I'll definately question your knowledge or 16th region basketball and just say "I guess we'll see when the season gets underway". I guarantee you one thing - Elliott will match up in heart and guts with any team in the state and alot of times that will do the trick. I would rate Elliott's offensive potential with anyone in the 16th region, as well. Once you're here long enough to make a few posts and read a few posts, you'll gain some knowledge of 16th region basketball.

Ok, help me out, with my limited knowledge of 16th basketball, I will predict

Russell will play Elliot County in the Ekc semifinals at Elliot County, Russell will not even have their full team at full strength because they are the only school around here still playing football (as usual) anyhow, I will take Russell in that game in a double digit win, would you care to showcase your knowledge and predict a score in that game?

After a bus ride that matches no other, Russell will find a gym that is standing room only and as loud as any they have played in. They will find a team that plays as hard and as fast paced as any they have faced all season. Mr. 16th Region will find someone that can contain him on defense and Russell will face a true test. If Elliott is making outside shots and in the game in the 4th quarter, Elliott will win 74-69. If Russell is able to slow the Elliott offense down and Vanhoose is able to score more than 20, then Russell will squeak a win out 68-64. Either way, Russell will hope that they don't have to face Elliott in Morehead come March.

So your taking one of only 4 kids that have signed a d-1 scholarship in Kentucky and declaring that one a draw? okkkkkkkkkk

Blair aganist Faulkner- It was the same player who caused over 5 turnovers in last years regional championship.

You mean like when he was shoved out of bounds and the referee gave the ball to Elliot? I believe at least 3 of those "turnovers" were caused by questionable officiating, can't count on that to happen again, Blair is finally healthy this year, sorry about your luck

Ferguson aganist Gill- Ferguson will give up some size but very little athleticism.

ok, so Ferguson can do 360* dunks and win the state long jump championship? Yeah, your right, not much difference in athleticism there

Maynard aganist Siezemore/Robinson- Maynard has improved his defense this year, and is not overmatched at all with either match-up.

Maynard will not be overmatched? so who wins this one? Hint it will be a foot race

Turner aganist Greene- Lets me start by saying Turner is no where near 6'6. He may be 6'4 at the most. Greene and Turner will play identical games, bangers under the basket whose main reasoning for playing is rebounding purposes.

Turner will outrun any "big man" in the region, Hoose is 6/4 and Turner is taller than him, How tall is Greene?

Its nice to have goals, just keep them REAL!

Good luck though, Elliot County does play hard and I love watching the BIG 3 PLAY, but the Reality is Russell has an edge at ever position, but that's just my opinion and I have limited knowledge of 16th region basketball:D

Ok, theres a fair prediction (although it sounds I'm a little more confident than you)

Dejava, are you saying that a 16th region championship is not a realistic goal for Elliott County this year? And your statement about Ferguson, no he can not do 360 dunks or win the state high jump but athleticism is not all about jumping. Ferguson is faster and much quicker. He finishs stronger and can make more athletic moves with the ball than Gill. He makes shot in games that only he can in this region that acquires just as much athleticism as a 360 dunk. Dont get me wrong by saying that I dont like Gill. I think he is an unbelieve athlete and I love how he plays the game.:thumb:
