Campbell County 38 Bishop Brossart 36

Featured Replies

A game of two halves in which the Lady Camels, behind 13 points from Camels Junior Mallory Holbrook, dominated the contest early, building a 21-9 lead at halftime. The Brossart gals were allowed only a pair of field goals during that time span.

The Lady Stangs played with renewed fervor, going on a 6-0 run to start the second half, outscoring the "home" team 19-8 in the third period cutting the Lady Camels lead to a single point at 29-28.

Momentum remained with the L'Stangs who went on to take a 33-29 lead with four minutes to play when the L'Camels battled back to tie it at 35s with 1:48 to go.

Campbell County converted two Brossart unforced turnovers into late game baskets, allowing them to preserve the victory, despite being out-scored 27-17 in the second half, and after surviving two late potential game-winner 3-point attempts that could have sent the Crosstown trophy to Grove Street.

Holbrook finished the night with 19 points and was the game MVP. Rosie Jump was tabbed the Brossart MVP. Holbrook was the only player in the game to achieve double-figures.

The boys take center stage at the Middle School Saturday with the freshmen game at 4:30pm, the JVs play at 6pm, and the featured varsity game slated for 7:30pm.

Thanks so much for posting and the great info. This would have been a huge win for BB.

I thought the head coach of Campbell left a bit to be desired. He literally went up and down the sideline by his bench yelling and taunting the Brossart girls while clapping his hands as they ran their plays. Very UNCLASSY! Oh yeah and he whines a lot, too.

Who is whining? This was a great game. Both coach's were into the game, BOTH coach's were talking to the officials, BOTH coach's were working their way as far as they could onto the court to coach THEIR kids.

The favorite thing to do after Campbell County wins is to complain about a coach who puts more passion and energy into the game than anyone I've seen in the state of Kentucky. That is not hyperbole, it is the truth.

Good luck to Brossart, they fought hard and left it all on the court. So did the Brossart coach. So did the Campbell County coach. So did the Campbell County players.

Campbell's coach was taunting Brossart's girls. That's what I saw. I have been to ALOT of games in my lifetime and have never seen a head coach do what he did.

I was seated behind the Campbell County bench the entire game. Never once did Campbell County's coach taunt a Brossart player.

Great recap.

Although, from my viewpoint the late game turnovers by Brossart were very much forced, due of the increased speed of the game the final 4 minutes.

Another newsworthy fact would be that the Camels prevailed in spite of their top defensive player being out for the game.

We must have been watching 2 different games. He never once taunted BBHS girls. He encouraged & coached his kids the whole game.

Good point. Not being that familiar with the Lady Camels, I did note that there was a line drawn through McKinlee Miller's name on my broadcast sheet.

On the second "unforced" turnover that resulted in a late-game Jalyn Jackson score, I honestly don't believe our passer saw her. From my vantage point on the floor the 5'3" Lady Camels guard blended right into the Campbell County bench background and our passer, who was unguarded at the time simply thought she was kicking the ball over to her partner in the backcourt unmolested.

The first "unforced" turnover I referred to was the steal/pass inteception by Mallory Holbrook which led to a layup.

I concur that the two on one turnover was caused by the the speed and pressure of the situation.

Regardless of "forced" or "unforced", those two events factored strongly into the outcome of the game.

Actually, while quite animated, Beau Menefee was doing nothing more than attempting to inspire his defense. I saw nothing UNCLASSY about it. His actions were not directed at our (Brossart) players, but his.

Camels can and will play much better when everyone is healthy. We have a lot of youth on the court that will get better and better.
