True blue (and gold) Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 1. Ryle 2. George Rogers Clark 3. Owensboro Catholic 4. Scott County 5. Lincoln County 6. Elizabethtown 7. Mercy 8. Male 9. Christian Academy of Louisville 10. Anderson County 11. Highlands 12. South Laurel 13. Casey County 14. Conner 15. Boyd County 16. Eastern 17. Butler 18. Southwestern 19. Webster County 20. Barren County
Chaz Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 In my opinion Conner deserves to be higher than Highlands until the Bluebirds show something. Ryle shouldn’t be #1 until they beat one of the top teams. Their best win last year was probably Simon Kenton. Not enough size and a young coach. Boyd County should be higher, they showed well last year at state and their one loss was without Wheeler. CAL, Male or Owensboro Cath will win it all this year.

Only lost one player last year and got beat Saturday morning by the team that won the state. I would say they have a very good chance.
BIGZIG Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 I agree about Conner being ahead of Highlands. They played with Ryle for 3 and a half quarters.

Chaz Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 After Friday we will know something. If your thinking this Friday may be Ryle’s first loss, I agree. Ryle seems to have Conners number but Highlands is loaded this year and has a great chance to upset the Raiders. Walz is an experienced coach and that will be enough to give the Bluebirds the chance to win they need. I’d like to see Highlands beat Conner head to head before ranking them higher that’s all.
houston99 Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Just curious as to why Highlands would be an upset win over Ryle if they are loaded? Sounds like the game might be a toss up since it is at Highlands.

Sounds like the game might be a toss up since it is at Highlands. Just an upset in the sense that Ryle is ranked #1 in KY, #1 in the region and #16 in US. And Highlands is ranked #11 in KY and #3 in the region. IMHO Highlands has the personnel and the coaching to beat Ryle. Only Conner, Highlands and maybe Dixie have a shot to take them down this year. I think the Bluebirds have the best chance.
BIGZIG Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Ryle beats Highlands comfortably. 15 to 20 points.
houston99 Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I agree with the statement earlier, Ryle isn’t the hands down number 1 team in the state. All those polls depend on which one you are looking at early in the season. Bluegrass preps is the only place I have seen Ryle number 1. They are in the top 3/4 in others. Not sure you can say they are #16 in the nation when many people don’t believe they are the clear #1 team in the state. IMO, Highlands over Ryle on their home court isn’t an upset. Highlands is loaded with talent and should be able to compete easily with Ryle.

Not sure CAL or Male will win the 7th Region, let alone the state. But both are impressive as CAL somehow having a 4-5 star Russian player who was playing in West Virginia, land in their lap surely helped them out.
REH5 Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 CAL also has Jaya MCClure a talented freshman who I believe came over from Whitfield Academy and evidently McDonald is healthy this year which could make them a very solid team.
