November 10, 200619 yr This past winter the Bengals spent some big $$ on the OL. And at that time, it seems that they spent it well. With the struggles on the OL, with the injuries to the OL, does it now appear they made a good call? Or will this be one of those contracts that will hamper their ability to make moves to improve the OL over the next couple years?

November 10, 200619 yr Author There was a blurb in the today's Enquirer about letting Steinbech go. It seems he would be one of the leading candidates in wanting to keep.

November 10, 200619 yr Author He wants tackle cash as a guard. Chances are he's going to price himself out of town... What is the difference in that salary? How much over Bobby Williams contract will Steinbeck want? I was surprised Willie at his age got the money he did. I really thought Steinbeck would have gotten Willie's money and Willie allowed to sign at a discounted rate or let go.

November 10, 200619 yr From Curnutte: If they don’t repeat as a playoff team, the Bengals are less than two months from the offseason. My question to readers: Which players would you like to see retained or let go and why? Here are their free agents: The potential unrestricted free agents are cornerback Rashad Bauman, Braham, cornerback Tory James, quarterback Doug Johnson, safety Kevin Kaesviharn, tight Reggie Kelly, guard Scott Kooistra, safety Anthony Mitchell, defensive end Justin Smith, offensive lineman Eric Steinbach, tight end Tony Stewart, wide receiver Kelley Washington, running back Kenny Watson, linebacker Marcus Wilkins and quarterback Anthony Wright. Unrestricted free agents are free to sign with any team without restriction, unless the Bengals use one of two pricey designations on them that might limit their ability to move. The potential restricted free agents are offensive tackle Stacy Andrews, cornerback Greg Brooks, defensive end Robert Geathers, linebacker Landon Johnson, punter Kyle Larson, linebacker Caleb Miller and defensive tackle Shaun Smith. Restricted free agents, as the name implies, have less mobility as three-year veterans. The team will place tenders on them, the higher amounts that can require draft choice compensation from another team that wants to sign them.
November 10, 200619 yr The Bengals have to get a D-line. I think injuries have hampered the O-line to a large degree, so I think that it might be alright. If I'm wrong, then they need to fix that first. In any case, the offensive and defensive lines have to be top priority. They'll never be anything more than a pretender if they don't. People can complain about the secondary all they want, but if you can't get pressure on the QB, it doesn't matter who's back there covering.

With the terrible linebacking core on this team, the D-line has had no chance to succeed. They do need someone who can get to the QB without a blitz, but the D-line hasn't been that bad this year.
