NKMSAA Football Championship Finals Recap

Featured Replies

Congrats to Newport Catholic with the 32-6 win over Ludlow in the Small School Division. For having low numbers Ludlow held tough throughout the season and in the finals game. For NCC first year in the league they went undefeated on the season and had a very fundamentally sound football team. Anyone could argue NCC should have been in the medium schools division this year and at least play a few large format teams. They are a tough team and I see the program improving even more next year.

In the Medium Schools Division Holmes adds another Championship and back to back for this team as they win over a very good and improved Sharp team 27-6. Holmes was really only challenged this year by Twenhofel and Walton during the season as those teams deemed tough wins for Holmes. Holmes at times looked sluggish this year but really had the playmakers step up and get the win for another championship.

And in the Large Format Division congrats to the Turkeyfoot Indians for a stunning victory over a Twenhofel team 6-0. Leading up to the start of the season TF did not have a football coach, Athletic Director, or Principal yet and to make it to the Championship game and then win it is a major accomplishment. I overheard a TF player say all we have to do is stop the one trick pony show of Twenhofels QB. Twenhofel was a very good team this year and was lead by the QB. Most of the teams success the past 2 seasons was on his shoulders. TF was very aggressive on defense this year and that lead to helping stop the Twenhofel QB in the championship.

Congrats to all the teams this season in the NKMSAA and to all the Championship winners and runner ups.

Ken Morgan for Coach of the Year also is my vote if we had to Vote...

We wanted to say thank you to all of the Coaches in the NKMSAA. This is a well run league. Your kids and parents made this a very enjoyable season.

For those of us out of the loop, which middle schools are feeders for which high schools?

For those of us out of the loop, which middle schools are feeders for which high schools?

Turkeyfoot-->Dixie

Twenhofel-->SK

Summit View-->SK (although they do have some kids that end up at Dixie and Scott)

Woodland-->Scott

Tichenor->Lloyd

Unless i've missed one, all the other schools are pretty self explanatory, as the have the same name as the High School they feed to.

Any info on 7th grade?

Twenhofel won over Cov Cath

NewCath will be really tough to beat next year. Coach Morgan did a heck of a job with that group. They absolutely grew by leaps and bounds from their scrimmages this summer to this past Saturday.

I'd like to take a contrary position about Holmes though. Holmes wasn't challenged at all during the season. The hardest part of their season was staying eligible and showing up to practice. The scores from the Twenhofel and Walton contests are not indicative of how dominant the Bulldogs were in those games. Touchdowns on 2nd/3rd stringers late in the fourth quarter make the scores look a lot closer than it really was.

Turkeyfoot winning was stunning. Game of the night in my opinion. I know their wasn't a lot of scoring but the defensive stops and the back and forth was great drama. I was fortunate enough to witness a practice or two of Turkeyfoots this past week. Those boys got after it and it translated well on the field. Heart breaks for Twenhofel though, that's two years in a row they made it all the way there and lost. The fire those losses lit may prove fruitful for Simon Kentons Freshman team next year.

Happy for all the players and coaches who got to play in these contests. Another great season!

Wanted to take away words that were, at first blush, argumentative.
