September 16, 20188 yr We have used this in our frosh/JV conference for over 10 years. The format was driven by the need to protect our kids and get them home at a decent time on a school night (Monday) . If there is a tie at the end of regulation, we have a coin toss for a 2 point play. The winner of the toss can choose offense or defense. Loser chooses end of the field. If the offense scores, that team wins the game. If they do not score, the team on defense wins the game. The tie is broken on one play. Sounds radical... but no more radical than eliminating kick off. For frosh/JV games it has worked very well. Does it have a place in HS Varsity games, college, or the NFL? Thoughts?
September 22, 20188 yr Hmmm...it is definitely interesting...would never work in college or the NFL but I like it for pop warner, freshman or JV...get the game over quickly and no tie.
