Johnson Central holds on to the top spot by the slightest of margins after dropping their season opener to a very talented Capital, WV team. Franklin-Simpson will have their chance to stake their claim this week, hosting an outstanding 5A South Warren squad. Ashland hopes to fare better against Mountain State competition when they go on the road against George Washington. The Tomcats survived a scare against 1A Raceland. Knox Central and Hopkinsville are both in desperate need of a win after getting beat thoroughly against quality teams the past week, but Knox Central will have to keep waiting during their open week. Wayne County knows all about this scenario. They showed resiliency by taking care of Pulaski County following a Week 1 shelling.

I don’t think he’s referring to the quality of opponent. Most would agree Mayfield and South Warren are hard tasks to manage.

 

If I had to infer what he meant, he was suggesting on how the games were not even relatively competitive. Which I can understand that. Number 5 may be a stretch. I would probably have them in the 9-10 range.

I think South Warren would be favored against all 4A teams. Mayfield would also be favored against everyone but maybe JC and FS and they would probably be toss-ups.

 

IF FS beats South Warren I think they would deserve the top spot. That’s a BIG if.

I agree completely with all the above. More or less, I was trying to wrap my head around why he didn’t have a very high opinion of Hopkinsville.

Real bad as in they weren't even competitive. Its not that they lost, but how they lost.

 

Compare it this way, Trinity is #1 in 6A with 2 loses, why, they have had competitive games and lost, ok.

I personally believe every team below Hopkinsville (and a couple above) would get completely shattered against those teams.

 

IMO Hopkinsville has a more appropriate prove-it game this week. If they lose to Caldwell County, then it's time for them to drop.

This is why ranking 4A in general would be so difficult. There's not a team in the class other than Hoptown who played two opponents of the caliber of South Warren and Mayfield to this point. Hoptown hung with South for a bit and then got left in the dust. They played to a scoreless first quarter with Mayfield, and then got left in the dust. But with a straight face, would you say any team below them to do better? Greenup County and Logan County are the only teams in the top 10 below them that are unbeaten. Neither has played an opponent with a pulse. Tough to evaluate how they'd do against Hoptown's schedule. I'm quite confident in how Hoptown would do against theirs.
