AAAA Region 4 District 8

Featured Replies

I know there will be questions about who plays who and who got what seed, so I did the Math and if I am correct here are the standings.

#1. Lincoln 9-1 (6-0 district)

#2. GRC 6-4 (4-2 district) (6 points)

#3. Madison Central 6-4 (4-2 district) (4 points)

#4. Montgomery County 5-5 (4-2 district) (3 points)

That is assuming you get points for beating a non district team, Madison Central beat two (Bryan Station 1-9 and West Jessamine 1-9) non-district where Montgomery only beat one (Rowan 2-8) non-district.

^I am unsure whether a team gets a point for a non district win. I thought it was only the wins by the non district teams you have beat. You may be right, I am not 100%.

GRC is #2 seed no matter what.

Montgomery gets 2 points from Rowan County.

Madison Central gets a point from West Jessamine and a point from Dunbar.

If you get points for a non district win then you are correct, if not then how does the tie between Montgomery and Central get decided?

Wouldn't Montgomery County get it because of the win over Madison Central?

our staff at Lincoln is not experts on this but we all seem to think that you get a point for a non-district win, however we aren't 100% on that. If you don't then it will go to head to head which Montgomery will win.

I as i understand it from reading the KHSAA rules, it goes by head to head match-up. But since its a three way tie GRC has earned the 2nd seed, and MC and Montgomery are tied with 2 points apiece. The decision for who gets the third seed is decided by the KHSAA board..........this from what I have read. I am 2 not 100%

Points in the tiebreaker system can be counted from ANY game, except head-to-head games between the three teams involved.

The tiebreaker is used to place all three teams, but if one is declared the winner and the other two are tied, then the head-to-head meeting comes into play.

Here's the breakdown for this district as I understand it, with each team's games that are eligible for tiebreaker points:

Clark 10 points (N. Laurel 3, S. Laurel 3, Bryan Sta. 2, Garrard 2, Whitley 2)

Montgomery 10 points (N. Laurel 3, S. Laurel 3, Whitley 2, Rowan 2)

Central 9 points (N. Laurel 3, S. Laurel 3, Whitley 2, West Jessamine 2, Dunbar 1)

Because of the Clark-Montgomery tie, a fifth game enters the equation, giving Clark 2 additional points for a total of 12. Montgomery has only four eligible games. So Clark is placed second, Montgomery third and Central fourth.

alright here is the deal I looked up the tie breaker procedures and it said that you can use any of your defeated opponents records (did not specify non-district and district) as long as it isn't any of the three teams tied with each other. In that case the teams could use South Laural, Whitley or North Laural. Which North and South both have 3 wins and according to this on the KHSAA website they could count both those two who have more wins then their non-district opponents. The explaination is cut off and I can't find the KHSAA handbook to look it up, if anybody can do that for me that would be great.

No. The points that a team gets are actually the number of wins of up to four of its defeated opponents except the games won by any teams involved in the tiebreaker.

Madison Central beat:

West Jessamine 1 win

Paul Dunbar 1 win

Whitley County 2 wins

South Laurel 3 wins

North Laurel 3 wins

Wins against any 4 defeated opponents=9 points

Montgomery County beat

Whitley County 2 wins

North Laurel 3 wins

South Laurel 3 wins

Rowan County 2 wins

Wins against any 4 defeated oppoents=10 wins

GRC beat

Bryan Station 2 wins

Garrard County 2 wins

North Laurel 3 wins

Whitley County 2 wins

South Laurel 3 wins

Wins against any 4 defeated opponents=10 wins

As such, Madison Central is the 4 seed and a tie remains between Montgomery County and GRC for 2nd place. Even though GRC won the regular season, head-to-head game, that is not the tie-breaker at this point. The tie is broken by adding an additional defeated opponents wins until the tie is broken or the games are exhausted.

Here, the result is such:

1- Lincoln County (6-0)

2- GRC (4-2) 12 points by going to 5th game and breaking tie

3- Montgomery County (4-2) 10 points for defeated opponents wins

4- Madison Central (4-2) 9 points for defeated opponents wins

Next Friday night, Lincoln County hosts Madison Central and GRC hosts Montgomery County.

Anybody see it differently?

You beat me to it, General.

You beat me to it, General.

You're good, Mr. N, but I cheated a little. I already had some of this looked up before tonight's games. :D

The General is correct, I've been trying to figure it out all night, sorry for the confusion I couldn't figure out the adobe acrobat it's in two columns and I figured it would run down in the same column to the next page but it flows back up to the top of the same page. Somewhere in college I must have skipped the class that taught you how to read adobe.

For future reference here is a link to the tournament rules, and on page 65 it explains the tie breaker procedures.
