In general, one thing Greenup County has always been able to replace are big bodies. It seems that the skill players come and go in cycles, but this year they're in a good cycle as far as skill players go.

 

Fwiw, I hope both teams do really well, but I believe Greenup County has less to prove coming into the season. Their defense alone will cause most teams on their schedule fits.

I tend to agree about Greenup, in regards to their skill people. This season feels like their best shot to really make something happen. Halstead, Kelly, and Thomas are all seniors. I'm not exactly a Greenup insider, so I don't really know a whole lot about what they've got coming up in the younger classes, skill wise. I did see their freshmen once last year, and nobody really stood out to me as a potential star WR or RB in that class. And they've only got ten freshmen listed on this year's roster. That's a little thin for 4A. I think they really need to take advantage of having this year's skill guys with Sammons out there.

We're on the same page and I completely agree with your assessment. As I mentioned skill players at Greenup seem to come in cycles. I really think Grizzle is building something in Greenup County but they really need to have a break out year this season. Losing to JC or Ashland isn't make or break for them, but their out of district games could have a lot of influence as far as the progression of the program goes.

 

Russell on the other hand, while they have more to prove imo, they're in a bit different situation. Its traditionally a really solid program so it's not hard to get kids to come out and play football. That said, they can have a mediocre year one season or lose a lot due to graduation and still be a really solid team the following year.

Bath is right on the cusp of cracking as well.

 

Thye need to prove they can beat Russell and Fleming first, but love what Poynter is doing with them.

 

Thye have a chance to make a statement against Powell County ( a 25-30 team in EKY) and Western Hills. If they can beat both of those teams it will be hard to keep them out.

Is Reed drawing any college attention? He's got the frame to fill out quite a bit more, and could make for a good TE prospect. Based on what I saw of him last year, I like his potential. He just doesn't get the chance to catch the ball much in Bath's offense.

Definitely a case where transfering to another school may have helped this kid some, for the exact reasons you state.
