Greenup County 2018

Featured Replies

What does Greenup County need to do to improve in 2018? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

I expect them to take another step forward this year. Grizzle's got'em headed in the right direction. That doesn't necessarily mean that they'll push JC or beat Ashland, but they should be more competitive. And a win over Ashland isn't out of the question. Greenup gave them a game at Putnam last year.

Sammons is the real deal, maybe the best QB prospect to come out of NEKY in a long, long time. He'll have a good group of skill people around him and good size on the O-line.

D-line has some holes to fill, but LBs and DBs should be pretty good.

I expect they will have a good season. Impressive group of seniors this year to lead the team, a few who are college prospects. The D/O line will need some work to fill in the gaps left by last year’s group. LB group will be lead by 3 year starter Thomas who has an eye for the ball. Halstead, Kelly, and Thomas should have a great year on the offensive side of the ball. I think we’ll see some kids step up to the challenge this year as well. The boys have been working hard in the off season and are anxious to get started in a few days.

22.1 points a game is what the defense gave up. Though against the 2 big boys(Johnson Central and Ashland) they gave up 51 and 49. So for the season to be better they have to be better against these two teams. Winning one of the two would be huge. I.M.O. They were also blanked 24-0 against Raceland, another school that had a very good year but getting beat that badly by a 1-A school can never be consider anything but bad.

With the same schedule, I think this team has the ability to be at least one game better, if not two.

How did they look in their scrimmage?

Looked pretty good on both sides of the ball. Hard to judge playing mason. Mason only had around 25 kids and most looked to be underclassmen.

Coach Buchanan left.

When that coach left, a lot of kids did not come back out.

It’s a basketball school just like the new administration wanted.
