MLB Replay Problems

Hey, after the way the Braves cheated the international signing process, they deserve to get screwed a few times.

As for the game, I was at it. The one at home was super close and on some angles it looked like guys hand when he was sliding was raised off the plate a little. The play at 3rd was a blown call, but I’m glad it went our way :lol2:

If you think the Cubs and the rest of baseball weren't, haven't or aren't curre tly doing similar things, you are being naive.

The Braves got caught because Coppy was a jerk to everyone. They got a harsher punishment than other teams that got caught doing similar things because Coppy didnt cooperate with the investigation.

The play at the plate was close, but replays showed he didnt touch the helmet. He was safe and replay officials should have over turned it.

Its one game, so no big deal.

Were they even punished at all? What’d they lose? Some future international pool money? They skirted the amount rules. No wonder they have the best farm system in baseball, cause they cheated.

They also took away 12 of their signees including the #9 prospect in their system.

FYI, Ken Rosenthal reported up to 15 teams have reached verbal agreements with ineligible players.

And yes, the Braves were punished.

They lost 13 players. They were prohibited from signing any international players for more than $10k during the 2019-20 window and their international signing bonus pool in 2020-21 will be cut by 50 percent.

Coppollela was banned from baseball for life and Gordon Blakeley was suspended one year.

Any prospects they gained by skirting the same rules everyone else likely skirts, are now gone.

Their farm system was the best in baseball without those players. They built it through trades and drafting and they built it well.

They also took away 12 of their signees including the #9 prospect in their system.

So 1 good player and 11 dudes who would probably never sniff the big leagues.

Not much of a punishment. Take away the guys they signed. Not much incentive to not cheat.

What more should they do? They took all the players they got by breaking the rules...

They also lost a 3rd round draft pick.

Pretty much everyone agreed that MLB dropped the hammer on the Braves.

The Red Sox were punished for something similar but their punishment was not as bad imo.

Your Cubs have probably broken the same rules.

They did take away guys they signed. And they lost the ability to sign future players. And they lost a draft pick.

They took away the guys they signed. So basically the only deterrent for cheating is losing guys you signed illegally. And I’m sure this wasn’t the only guys they cheated to get. So basically it’s cheat and if you get caught, you just lose those guys and if you don’t get caught you reap the benefits. The Braves were able to build their farm system up so they being stopped from bidding on players for a year or 2 isn’t a big deal. A 3rd rounder? Whoopity Do! A real deterrent would’ve been to make Acuna a FA and make the Braves pay up if they wanted to keep him. And it’s easy to say “other teams probably do it” with no backing.

I’ll go watch the replays of the 2016 World Series if you’ll go watch the replays of the Braves choking away the 90’s with some of the most talented teams we’ve seen in our lifetimes :D

You cant take away players they signed fair and square, as much as you'd like to see Acuna elsewhere. He was signed by the previous Braves regime, so why should they lose him? That's a tad ridiculous to suggest.

Everyone (other than you) agrees that the punishment was severe. They lost every player they signed so any advantage they gained was negated, and they lost other things on top of that.

Re: other teams doing it..

It's not rocket science guy...

The Red sox were caught doing something similar recently and didnt get as bad of a punishment.

Rosenthal reported at least 15 other teams agreed to sign ineligible players.

The Padres held workouts and paid for things they weren't supposed to...

Google it. Other teams do it...Coppy was a jerk so the Braves paid. They didn't get any benefits from cheating and in fact lost more than they gained in the first place.

How is losing players you should’ve never had severe? All They really lost was a 3rd round pick and can’t sign an international player in 2019-2020 for big money. That’s really not that bad for cheating.

The only person hammered was the GM which has no real bearing on the organization. Teams get new GMs all the time.

They never proved they cheated to sign every player... but they still lost every international player.

And you still can't take players away that had nothing to do with it. How do you decide who gets taken? Acuna because he's highly rated? Why not Freddie Freeman then? That's just dumb.

Pretending like they got hammered is exaggerating. Even if it’s somewhat harsh, it’s nothing that affects anyone other than the fans 5+ years down the road. No punishment in the here and now other than the GM.
