And if it is truly a sawed off shotgun, it is illegal to possess without the tax stamp from the ATF.

FWIW, I wasn’t implying he went through a dealer.

Like has been mentioned the former owner of this weapon may be facing some troubles.

Of course, the shooter could have cut it down himself. All you need is a hacksaw.

You can legally saw length off the barrel of a shotgun, it just has to have at least an 18" barrel and an overall firearm length of at least 26". So the term Sawed Off Shotgun doesn't always imply that it is an illegal firearm to possess.

Accused Ocala school shooter snuck gun in guitar case, was looking for attention, arrest report says | WFTV

Sky Bouche, 19, told detectives he went to the school with a 17.5-inch shotgun because a school shooting “is an event that creates more attention” and “expressed feelings that he was being ignored and indicated he wanted to go to jail,” the report says.

Seems the media got the terminology correct.

I didn't say they were wrong. I was just pointing out that sawing off a shotgun, isn't in and off itself, illegal.

Correct, but he was charged with having a short barreled shotgun so I assumed it was illegal.

17.5 inches is illegal, 18 inches is not.

Ocala, Florida School Shooter Attended Kentucky Military Camp - LEX18.com | Continuous News and StormTracker Weather

The 19-year-old accused of shooting through a classroom door in his former high school and injuring a student previously attended a teen military camp here in Kentucky.

Sky Bouche attended the Military Adventure Camp in Flemingsburg. The 50-plus acre camp offers a high adventure military experience. As they advertise on their website, the camp is where "kids ages 12-18 learn to shoot assault-style rifles and practice sniper skills and hand-to-hand combat."

Have to say that I’m not sure we need this camp this day and age. :isurrender: These kids can wait to be snipers for the good guys in the military.
