Whitley County

4chs- I think the game at Whitley will be a barn burner. If Josh Crawford scores 16 or more from the free throw line, Corbin wins a close one. If Crawford can not hit his free throws or if he wilts under the continual beating, Whitley wins in a close one.

Crawford will be the best player on the floor but, he will have someone holding and banging on him all night. Take Crawford out of the mix and the two teams are close talent wise.

This will be the meanest most agressive team in the history of Whitley County. This bunch will guard your behind from the time you get off the bus untill you are reseated and heading home. Whitley will lead the 13th in floor burns, stitches, head knots, bruising screens, collecting loose balls and in your face intimidating defense. They are led by the a Bobby Knight prototype who refuses to allow his players to even think about losing. Losing is an unacceptable concept in Mike Deatons Camp. The only thing in the gymnasium meaner than the kids this season will be Coach Deaton and Deatons biggest fan the Mountainmutt.

Whitley fans get out to Charles M Lawson Gymasium cause the Colonels are going to be ready to rumble. There will be no 60 point routes like last year. This bunch and their leader had rather crawl on a bed of broken glass than to lose their manhood in a 60 point qroute.

Colonel Pride is back and the South Whitley boys are ready to bust some heads.

You mean in the 1st qtr.:scared:

If it takes internet banter (especially by nut cases like the Mountainmutt), to fire the Corbin kids up when they face their home town rivals, something is wrong. Besides that, nothing makes the Mutt happier than a display of good old fashioned emotional conflict (especially the desperate win or die type of emotion that should hallmark this rivalry). These kids know each other very well, in many cases are neighbors, in some cases hang out together and in other cases despise each other. Regardless, there should be plenty of personal pride on the line, when they match-up. If not, then these guys need to give up basketball and join a convent for girly boys and crossdressers.

This bunch of Whitley kids are lead by Deaton and Siler not the love your neighbor, take the summer off , the score does not matter, play for enjoyment (not victory), excuses for coaches that have called themselves Whitley Basketball Coaches over the past few seasons.

This years Colonel Team will play with blood, guts and a new found nastiness. They will play to protect their family name (and the coaches) from the humiliation of crawling of the floor with their heads bowed in character crushing defeat. These boys will not resemble the whipped guffies (beat me by 60, please Master embarrass me more, show me again how inferior my bloodline is) that opponents have come to expect when they have visited Charles M. Lawson Gymnasium over the past few seasons. This year's team will come expecting the glory of victory and willing to accept nothing less at the cost of blood and bone. Manhood and family honor will be on the line in every battle and these kids will play like it.

A new Sheriff is in town and the Colonels will walk tall with a big stick in each hand. I just hope the fans will return to Lawson Gymnasium to see the new swagger in these kids.

Ol Bubba bets if the Colonels take as much pride in their team as the Mutt then they will be one fun team to watch. Not sure if they have enough skills to win, but from what the Mutt is saying they sure will fight to the finish. I just hope they do not shed too much blood in their attempt to gain victories. Save the battles for the frontlines and taverns, not on the hardwood. Of course, I am sure Mutt is just making anologies to show the new found resolve of the Colonels.

It is clear the the professor knows his stuff, but I would think that using BGP material for the locker room would be beneth Coach Pietrowski. I would not think he would need it. To be honest I don't think Corbin sees this as a rivalry game any more. To fit into that catagory you need to win sometimes and even with the addition of Deaton on the WC sidelins they can't and won't win so the need to BB material is a moot point.

I would say it is beneath Coach Pietrowsky as well. I would also agree that the Hounds do not need any motivation for this game. I think the Professor was just making a " Statement". Just trying to say that any undue pressure applied to an already fragile ship might make it sink quicker.

It also saddens my heart to see a one of the largest schools in the region be dominated by schools half their size.. 1980? was the last season the Colonels won the District. Hopefully they can begin to climb back to the middle of the pack and then progress to beating teams like South, North, Clay,Corbin and Cawood. Til then I think adding any pressure on these boys might be a unwise decision.

Apex is taking the right approach...be realistic and supportive. Anything else is just a plus. Now two years from now the Colonels might be making some noise, but for now it is a bit premature.

As unusual as it might seem....Mr. Bubba seems to be the only reader who truly understood my post. Corbin has dominated Whitley for years....I believe Coach Deaton was the last Corbin coach to get swept by the Colonels in 95 but even then the Hounds took the Colonels in the district tournament and went on to the finish runner up in the region. I did not say the Redhounds needed the material for motivation. I said it may help them focus for the game. Since they have won nearly 20 in a row they may need to make certain as to not overlook the Colonels this season. I will attempt to further explain my posts next time so as all readers can understand them. So sorry for the confusion.

Bubba is honored to be the only one to get it correct. I am not a smart man but I know some things.... You scare me Mr. Moriarty.....If you and Sherlock went over the Falls together how are you on BGP nowadays....just a kiddin. You make some good points even if they hurt us fans of Whitley and Wburg. I think you might be my new Hero. Keep up the good work. Please write on a 6th grade level so I can understand what you are saying. Most newspapers are on that level and it is what I am used to looking at....lol

is that Crawford kid the one from Williamsburg? or is that another kid that plays for Corbin?

Crawford has always been at Corbin. Hamlin came to Corbin from W'burg during middle school.

I wonder if the Colonels will challenge for the district.

Are you kidding me? No chance this year, but maybe after that.

As far as agressive play goes I certianly think that the Colonels will be more agressive this year but within the confines of the game. I think it is safe to say that a great majority of the fan base was unhappy with the reputation that Whitley got last year, and not just the losing but the fights and dirty play. In part I think that could have added to the demise of the former coach, in that it appeared that he had lost control of the team.

Like most basketball fans in the old 50th and the new 50th along with the 13th region, I am looking forward (win, lose or draw) to seeing the 2006/07 version of the Colonels and what improvements Coach Deaton has made.

I 'm confused are we talking about baseball, football, basketball, or all them playing at the same time....and what about our sheriff, I thought he got re-elected

The Mike Deaton era got off to a winning start last night with a 66-53 win over Jellico, Tn., but they may get a reality check Friday when Corbin visits Lawson Gymnasium.

Exactly... They sure didn't look good enough or BIG enough to be bashing heads and causing stitches. Maybe the Mutt should re-evaluate his team.
