Flood Watch through Sunday(UPDATED 2/24/18)

Featured Replies

...HEAVY RAINFALL EXPECTED THROUGH THE COMING WEEKEND IN SOUTHERN

INDIANA AND PORTIONS OF CENTRAL KENTUCKY...

.A slow moving frontal boundary will move through the region on

Wednesday and then stall out across the area for the remainder of

the week. Multiple weather disturbances will move northeastward

along the boundary and bring repeated bouts of moderate to heavy

rainfall to the region. 3 to 6 inches of rainfall is expected

across the watch area through Sunday morning. This watch may be

expanded in area in later forecasts as precipitation forecasts

become more clear.

...Heavy rainfall expected through the end of the week across

southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, southwest Indiana and west

Kentucky...

.Multiple weather disturbances are forecast to move across the

area the rest of the week and bring repeated bouts of rain,

moderate to heavy at times. An event total of 4 to 7 inches of

rainfall is likely across the Watch area through late Saturday

night. The region can handle the initial rains from last night and

through the day today. As another wave of rain moves across the

area tonight, there could be isolated water problems, but likely

a limited overall impact, if there are any issues at all. There

is a greater concern for areal flooding Thursday night through

Saturday night after the ground across the region is more

thoroughly saturated, and heavier rainfall rates are achieved.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING...

* Through Sunday morning

* Several rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected

across the watch area Thursday morning. Additional rounds of

showers and thunderstorms are expected late Thursday through

late Saturday night. 3 to 5 inches of rainfall is expected

through Sunday morning which result in excessive runoff and

flooding.

* This rainfall combined with already saturated soils will lead

to excessive runoff which will cause already swollen rivers to

rise more. Significant and continued rises on the Ohio,

Rolling Fork, Kentucky, and Green rivers, as well as other

area streams, are expected throughout the week and into the

weekend. In southern Indiana, the Blue River and Muscatatuck

River may see significant rises later this week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on

current forecasts.

Monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible warnings. Those

living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take

action should flooding develop or worsen.

Nelson Co. Schools were on a 2-hour delay today because of flooding in the low-lying areas of the county.

Ohio River has already overtaken River Road in downtown Louisville. It's forecast to come up seven more feet before Monday, which will be the highest crest since 1997. Many more road closures to come in The Ville.

Is that including what we've already had, or additional?

That is from today through next Thursday. We have more rain coming next week. I had to edit the post. I posted the wrong map.

The chance for flash flooding is now high along and adjacent to the Ohio River. Also for most of WKY.

Pouring buckets in Nelson Co. right now. I'm guessing that after this last wave, the New Haven-Boston exit off the parkway is probably under water.

Looks like we'll have a couple of days to dry out before the rain returns by midweek. For now doesn't look anything severe.

The rain was nuts last night in Louisville. They issued a Flash Flood emergency for a while it was so bad. Over 50 water rescues reported here last night.

Just outside of the city was a mess, too. Parts of interstates 71 and 64 were flooded and shut down.

Latest forecast has the Ohio cresting in Louisville a foot higher than before last nights rain.
