Since conference champions automatically qualify for the NIT, and several will no doubt lose their conference tournaments, a 32-team field is actually more like a 24-team field. Most of those bids go to major conference teams. If NKU wants to make the NIT (if, of course, the don't win the conference tournament) they'd better win the league. Oakland and Valpo both got in the NIT last year with 24 wins.

Last year, Oakland was 111th in the RPI while Valparaiso was 72nd. Currently Northern Kentucky is 119th, a long way from where Valpo was. I'll still say the only way NKU makes either tournament is winning the league or winning the tournament.

Vermont is 53 and has done nothing to earn that (1 win vs. top 100, same as NKU) and NKU is dead even with them on the court. If NKU has 24 wins and finish even with Wright State and then Wright State wins the conference tournament, I think NKU should get in. The Horizon should have enough respect to get one in the NCAA and one in the NIT. We'll see. You may be right but if this scenario plays out, I'd be disappointed not to see them in the NIT.
