Any predictions on the outcome of the Corbin-Rockcastle Semi-final match-up?

I pressume that the Rockcastle County dominance will continue in the tournament. Corbin has finally started to play a better schedule but Rockcastle County has played a really good schedule since Coach Larry Lee has taken over the helm.

 

I most amazing fact about the Rockcastle County volleyball program is that they've been to 5 out of 6 regonal tournaments since the program was started in 2001.

I only see 2 teams statman on their schedule that i would consider maybe decent at best.Tates Creek who is way down this year and Henry Clay who was decent.When you see them playing alot more teams from the golden triangle than we will talk about a "really good schedule".:fire:

Maybe so, but it's a good schedule for this area, when you consider that many teams load up on weak competition to pad the win totals, and that the development of v-ball in this area is way behind that of the triangle area. The best most teams in SE and EKY can do is try to play in as many tournaments as possible where the competition will be better than what is in the area; kind of hard to justify frequent single-game trips in a sport that doesn't really generate a whole lot of cash.

I agree about the travel issues.When the state format was changed in the late 90's to a sixteen team regional it was done to get more of the teams from outside the triangle involved in the state tournament.

With that in mind I'm guessing the state hoped that once the involvement took place that the rest of the state would realize what they would need to do to catch up with the teams from the triangle.The problem is outside maybe one or two club teams have been started but not nearly the amount needed to make these girls competitive.

I watched the match last night between 31 and 1 Montgomery Co and Newport Catholic in the semi's of the 10th and it was flat out embarassing for MC.The key is getting the club teams started for these young ladies at an early age and watch them develop.This probably belongs in the "beat the dead horse" thread but every year the same thing happens.

I would certainly agree that the development of volleyball is way behind that of other schools. I'm very new to the sport. My sister is a freshman at Clay County this year and is playing varsity. She'd never picked up a volleyball prior to the beginning of this season. Volleyball definitely needs more exposure in Southeastern Kentucky!

Forming Club teams is definately the way to go. The girls have to practically play year round to show a marked improvment .

The golden triangle thing just cracks me up!:jump: I see more than 2 teams that are decent at best. I bet poor country school Rock or Corbin would play anybody that would play them. I've said it before, I'll say it again. It's not the schools fault, those from the "Golden triangle":jump: SORRY, won't play those poor country schools. Corbins coach as well as Rocks coach know volleyball as well as anyone anywhere. I remember the days when the only good girls basketball teams where from the "Golden triangle" :jump: . As that passed, so will this. Now I'll jump off my soap box and let you all have a chance!

Come on boom nobody said anything about the coaches.Its the lack of talent that they have to coach.The state has been waiting for 8 or 9 years for the rest of the state to catch up....problem is...it isnt happening.:sleep: Until they do there's probably 6 or so spots being taken up at state by teams that quite frankly dont belong.I did see something i hadnt seen since the 70's,the Montgomery Co team used a 5 person serve/recieve.I could decide if they blocking for a punter or getting ready to do a cheer.:lol:

Didn't Russell County, from South central Ky, beat the camels, the region runner-ups, in the cake classic? Also Lafayette beat some N.ky teams they played and some southern teams played with them. Talent comes from experience, experience comes from tradition, tradition comes from time.

BM I think you get what I was trying to say about the good schedule that Rockcastle County has played...it's not on the level of good as far as the better teams in the state but like JS said, for the area it's actually one of the better schedules played.

 

I also agree with you in the fact that feeder programs need to start in the mountains ASAP. I think a few of the area school districts around Rockcastle County have started middle schools teams and if I'm not mistaken Rock has as well. It shouldn't stop at the middle school level either....travel or club teams should be started too.

 

I hate to admit it but once again I agree that there are anywhere from 5-6 or even more teams at the state level that shouldn't be there based on talent level BUT the teams can't be faulted for whom they have to play in the regional and district tournaments either. They can only play who the KHSAA has them play in order to get to state.

Whether you want to believe it or not...the Camels had 5 starters at homecoming that night and they played with the jv/freshman team and still went 3 games.As far as "playing" with Lafayette thats great.But do it on an everday basis than you would have something to stand on."tradition comes from time". How long is time.The state has been waiting for years.

Actually no.All the other sports in this state are set up to get the best of the best to the state finals.Volleyball is far from that.If the state wants to get the best of the best they need to do it in a round robin format like the LIVT is run.That is about as close as you'll get to a real state tournament.Give Ron Kordes a call and see what he thinks about the state tourny.:thumb:
