Thats a classic statement there. LOL. For me, I actually wouldn't want to know what Mr. Kordes has to say about the state tournament...I don't think there are enough bad words in the dictionary for him to describe it. LOL.

Actually no.All the other sports in this state are set up to get the best of the best to the state finals.Volleyball is far from that.If the state wants to get the best of the best they need to do it in a round robin format like the LIVT is run.That is about as close as you'll get to a real state tournament.Give Ron Kordes a call and see what he thinks about the state tourny.:thumb:

 

How? The other sports are set up the same way. The best team from each area. Please explain. As in most other sports this is starting to be a public/private thing.

 

You couldn't have been waiting to long for us to catch up, most schools in our area have only had volleyball for 6-8 years. Sorry I don't see things the same as you "triangle" people do. I am sure I could find several schools from the "triangle" who have had volleyball for years and who havnt been good.

The issue is the lack of Club Volleyball outside of the Triangle. There are numerous JO volleyball clubs throughout Louisville, Lexington and NKY and they are able to develop a wealth of talent at both the public and private schools. Lexington has recently been playing the "catch up" game with Louisville and NKY. They haven't caught up yet but have been able to make decent strides because of the club development in that area. BAVA and Lexington elite (I believe, and I am sure there are others) are two clubs that have helped increase the development in Lexington.

 

Club vball works in these areas because there is a high population (of talent) in a relatively small area. Players live close to club practice facilities and there is competition between competing clubs. In other areas of the state, where the population is less dense, players would need to travel longer distances in order to have the same talent pool available. Practicing 2-3 times a week with travel times of 45 - 60 minutes makes the commitment that much more difficult.

 

This doesn't even address the issue of tradition and experience that the triangle has as well. Many, many student athletes from these club programs receive college scholarships and the sport is much more than just a high school sport to them.

 

As far as this being simply a Public/Private issue, that is Bunk! Those that want to find a crutch will and those that want to improve will as well. The private schools have had a decided advantage because the parochial grade schools do a superior job of promoting volletball at a much earlier age. Public schools from NKY (Boone, Ryle, Campbell Co, Simon Kenton, Conner), Lexington (Lafeyette, Henry Clay, Tates Creek) and Louisville (Butler, Male, Manual) and others have embraced the benefits of club ball and have seen their volleyball talents increase accordingly.

I pressume that the Rockcastle County dominance will continue in the tournament. Corbin has finally started to play a better schedule but Rockcastle County has played a really good schedule since Coach Larry Lee has taken over the helm.

 

I most amazing fact about the Rockcastle County volleyball program is that they've been to 5 out of 6 regonal tournaments since the program was started in 2001.

Scores for the Semi's and Final were:

 

Rockcastle 0, Corbin 2: 16-25 & 22-25

 

Whitley 0, Clay County 2: 19-25 & 15-25

 

Clay County 0, Corbin 2: 23-25 & 25-13

 

The first Clay-Corbin game was pretty close, but Clay lost their momentum against a strong Corbin team. Congrats Corbin & Good Luck!
