Getslow Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Caught Lady Bird last night. Absolutely fantastic. Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf were great and the script was so, so good. It’s going to take something pretty spectacular to knock that off the Best Picture spot for me.
The Professor Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I’ve lost a lot of faith in the Oscars as a body that chooses the best winners. Just a couple of examples were when Harvey Weinstein used his political clout to maneuver Shakespeare In Love as winner over one of the greatest movies ever made, Saving Private Ryan. And last year was another flub when Moonlight won over several better choices, especially La La Land. I suppose if some of the studios don’t play the political game, such as Steven Spielberg, it costs them in the end.
