Lafayette @ Henry Clay

Featured Replies

What do statistics mean?

The two teams have five common opponents:

Henry Clay Lafayette

53-10 Boyle County 36-33

42-0 Bryan Station 32-24

40-7 Woodford County 31-27

48-20 Tates Creek 27-17

42-3 Dunbar 35-24

Henry Clay has outscored those five opponents by an average of 45-8.

Lafayette ouscored those five common opponents by an average of 32-25.

What do statistics mean?

If they do mean anything, this game will not be close.

Historically, it means nothing. Lafayette has been in this position before with Henry Clay last season when they wasn't even in the top 30 in the state and Henry Clay was in the top 5. A run up score dosen't equal dominance.

Lafayette did beat Henry Clay last year but was then ousted from the playoffs by South Laurel in the 1st round. South Laurel went on to get crushed in the second round by Henry Clay. Wouldn't that make Henry Clay better than Lafayette even though they lost to them head to head?

My point is, it is hard to judge teams based on common opponent scores. Henry Clay just has more offensive firepower than Lafayette and can score points in a hurry against inferrior opponents. That is to take nothing away from Lafayette, it is just a fact that HC's skill players are that good.

Both teams are fighting for homefield advantage and should make for a good game.

You make good points, "Son of Bear"......in fact, you consistantly make good points on your posts.

One comment. Lafayette did beat Henry Clay in the season finale last year. Lafayette was trailing 21-7 and stayed in the game long enough for Henry Clay to implode. The players lost it, the coaches lost it. Lafayette mixed in some nice crossing patterns underneath and took over the game. Had Lafayette beat South Laurel in the playoffs and thus, had to travel to Henry Clay for the next round game, I think you would have seen an entirely different Blue Devil team.

Henry Clay was much, much better than Lafayette last year although the head to head meeting did not prove it.

As far as this year goes, tomorrow night will tell a lot.

Thanks, and I return the compliment.

I agree that HC had a let down last year against Lafayette, they had already wrapped up the district so the game didn't mean much other than pride.

I think Simpson will have his team a lot more ready to play this year. They have a bye week after this game, then will probably play Tates Creek in the 1st round, and if they survive then Scott or Lafayette. That will be a little stiffer competition then last year's 1st two playoff games (Whitley and South Laurel). A letdown in an early playoff game this year and the season is over quickly.

I think HC has a legit shot at making it to Papa Johns if their defense can shore things up a little bit. This is coming from a non HC fan as well.

An interesting game in deed. Would love to see this one.

I want to wish both of these class programs the best today and hope for a great game!

Ditto!

Back to the topic of the thread. I predict Henry Clay will hang 50+ on Lafayette and win the ballgame. The General's defense has given up too many points to several margin to poor teams. Offensively, Henry Clay is far superior to those teams, thus, the scoreboard will light up.

I am not sure as to how many Lafayette will score, but not enough for sure.

First of all, there was no lightning at the Dunbar game. That was Lafayette vs. Woodford. Second, didn't Dunbar have a good showing against MBA...and didn't MBA beat Trinity? If Scott County is a notch above everyone else, who have they beaten? Don't be suprised if Scott County gets beaten by Dunbar this weekend.

That would be a heck of a surprise!!!
