Coach French's 200th win

Featured Replies

I had not realized he had been a head coach for 33 years. What is his overall record?

Through 10/6/06 he is 14-13 at Lincoln County.

2004 3-7

2005 5-5

2006 6-1

From 1990-2003 at Meade County he was 101-60.

That would give him a total of 115 wins from 1990 through 2006. ChiefSmoke posted that he won 70 games at Mercer County.

That makes the total 185. I think he left Mercer County after the 1988 season, which means he had to of won 15 games in 1989 at Meade County in order for the total to be 200 (He may have been at Meade in 1988, if so, that makes more sense).

To answer your question, I would guess that his record would be about 200-163 (I base this on averaging 11 games per season for 33 years and subtracting the 200 wins, leaving 163 losses).

The missing pieces to the puzzle are:

1. 1988 (Mercer or Meade?)

2. Number of losses at Mercer, assuming the 70 wins are correct.

3. Record at Meade prior to 1990

This puzzle shouldn't be too difficult.

By the way, Congratulations to Coach French. He is a great guy and I am glad that he is coaching my alma mater. I hope he can stick around for a while.

The credit for Coach French being at Lincoln County (other than Coach French wanting to be there) goes to Don Story who was the Athletic Director at LCHS in 2003-2004 when LC decided to make a coaching change. From my understanding of the events, he pursued Coach French because he wanted a gentleman and winner off the field as much as he wanted a winner on the field. It was the high standards set by Don Story that resulted in the hiring of a great man like Larry French.

Just because I have the information at my fingertips, here are the LC Coaches since 1974

Bill Ed Leedy 1974-1978 (5 seasons) 20-31 (.392)

Donald Wooldridge 1979-1982 (4 seasons) 38-9 (.808)

Steve Sullivan 1983 (1 season) 5-6 (.454)

Larry Phillips 1984-1990 (7 seasons) 59-23 (.710)

Marty Jaggers 1990-1996 (6 seasons) 49-27 (.644)

Tim Estes 1997-2001 (5 seasons) 31-25 (.553)

Robbie Lucas 2002-2003 (2 seasons) 4-16 (.200)

Larry French 2004- Present (in 3rd season) 14-13 (.518)

Through 10/6/06 he is 14-13 at Lincoln County.

Coach French was at Mercer for the 88-89 season and went 10-2 with both losses coming against Danville. MC had a very good team that year.

Was he at Meade for the 1989 football season?

Great post, Don Story himself is also a great guy and did a very good job in his short stint as AD. I think the part you just brought up has been hidden in the shadows.

One day in practice, I got back to the huddle, after running the ball on a pass play( I was the qb). He says to me, "Did the earth start to shake?" I said, "No sir." He says, "Then I don't want you to run the ball!"

My daughter teaches at Mercer now, and Jack R. calls her "little Larry", I don't know if that is good or bad?:D
