Bluegrasspeps' Class 1A Rankings - Discussion (10/23)

Class 1A

Paintsville is officially the undisputed regular season Champion of the Eastern Semi-State. The Tigers took care of Raceland in convincing fashion and now own victories over all four teams in the East that are currently ranked. The Tigers now turn their focus on a ranked 3A Fleming County to wrap up their regular season. Kentucky Country Day got all they could handle from Frankfort, yet the Bearcats prevailed. They test their team speed against the ultra-athletic Waggener Wildcats. Though the regular season is ending we still have two more treats just in time for Halloween. Top-ranked Beechwood takes on historic rival Newport Central Catholic, and we get the rare Week 10 clash of ranked 1A teams as Paris and Ludlow cross District lines one last time.

1. Beechwood vs. 2A #10 Newport Central Catholic

2. Paintsville at 3A #9 Fleming County

3. Kentucky Country Day vs. 3A Waggener

4. Hazard at 5A Whitley County

5. Raceland at 3A Russell

6. Paris vs. #7 Ludlow

7. Ludlow at #6 Paris

8. Pikeville at Tolsia (WV)

9. Williamsburg at 2A Middlesboro

10. Frankfort vs. 2A Owen County

I'm glad Paintsville moved ahead of Kentucky Country Day. Paintsville has better wins and KCD's wins over good teams (Walton-Verona, Frankfort, Louisville Holy Cross) have been by a total of 13 points. Obviously the Bearcats have shown an ability to win close games, but they've haven't shown the ability to run past quality teams.

I think it was time to make the switch (re KCD). They've swapped places in the CalPreps rankings as well these past two weeks. While KCD has had a record breaking, history making, wonderful year thus far....Paintsville looks a little better in a number of comparison categories.

Obviously a win over an athletic and explosive 3A Waggener squad would be a nice way to cap off the regular season for KCD. As stated before, not sure who all of the big guns for both schools are suiting up Friday. KCD is largely injury free with a few dings here and there. Waggener lost the talented Manny Harper several weeks ago, but still can bring superstars like Jarius Brents and Tahj Rice to Springdale Road this week. Stay tuned till kickoff.

Rankings look much better this week!

Waggener has won 4 games. I dont know how a win over them proves anything? Sure they have a ton of talent, but how good of a team are they at .500 with all that talent?

To be honest I think Pikeville and Hazard better than Raceland. Pikeville’s record makes them hard to rank any higher, just an opinion.

I would guess a lot of teams rest main players this week in order to prepare for playoff runs.

I think the Top 5 looks good. 6,7,8,9 is basically interchangeable. Frankfort a solid 10.
