Best pitchers in the 12th region in 2007?

Featured Replies

True enough. Why he didn't throw harder against Catholic is anybody's guess. He was clocked at 94 multilple times in the region by more than one college scout.

I don't know, but he was belt high with a lot of stuff and Catholic hit him a little.

My question is this...

He's going to be a high draft pick, my guess would be in the top 4 rounds.

Why is he playing football and risking that much money?

Football is king in Boyle County. If you have that kind of arm Coach Harp will find a way to get you on the field. Plus getting drafted and making it are two different things.

Not to take anything away from Rich and his accomplishments but his fastball is straight as an arrow. He reminds me a lot of former Boyle pitcher Derek Christerson except that Rich throws about 3 or 4 mph harder consistantly. When Derek got to college, his straight 90-92 got rocked. I know Paul will work on developing a 2-seamer because that is what he will need when he gets to the next level and beyond, which I am sure he will.

But just getting a signing bonus for even the 5th round will be around a quarter million...that's a lot to lose for a broken leg or dislocated shoulder.

And yes, Witten's fastball is very straight. He could move his arm slot down a bit and pick up some more movement, but he'd probably sacrafice some velocity. Different strokes for different folks, though.

Adam Wallen and Jordy Molen are pitchers that pitch very well for Somerset I believe there was a stretch last year where Molen had 3 or 4 straight wins. Adam Wallen is a good baseball player who always works at getting better. Could be a great year for the Jumpers.

Based on these two players or are you saying they have other good players to go with them? It takes 9 to fill a roster.

It takes a lot more than nine to fill a roster...but anyway, yeah Somerset will return all nine starters (they did lose their senior DH) from the 12th Region Runner-up team...so I would say they'll be extremely good next year.

How about the other starters?

Rich Witten - Danville

..hands down, he's a D-1 recruit and has drawn the attention of professional scouts as well.

Rich will at times throw 95+ this year and get drafted so I'd say that separates him from the pack.

Saw Witten pitch in Huntington over the summer in a tournament playing for the Mustangs and he topped out at 90 on one pitch. Stayed mostly in the 86-88 range, and as some have mentioned had absolutely no fastball movement. He was rocked pretty hard in that particular game.

He may be a great hitter as well, but in that tournament he struck out 4 times that I know of, but he did hit one home run.

Keep updating us on any possible D-1 prospects. We are always on this forum to find possible names. We want the best to play at Morehead State.

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that's against the rules.

I dont mean to sound like a smart alleck, but I cant see many top flight prospects wanting to go to Morehead until there are some changes made there.

I would have been happy to have had the chance to play at Morehead...
