Standing before a federal judge as an accused con man, acid-tongued WFAN morning show host Craig Carton was finally speechless.

 

The caustic co-star of “The Boomer and Carton Show” said nothing after his early Wednesday arrest for duping investors out of $5.6 million to cover his whopping gambling debts, authorities charged.

 

“Who do you like in the Pats game tomorrow?” one bystander shouted as Carton, his face hidden by his hoodie, marched mutely from the Manhattan Federal Courthouse to a cab.

 

Carton and co-defendant Michael Wright redirected some of the funds from their web of deceit to a “Ponzi-like scheme,” reimbursing some investors with money bilked from other victims, according to court papers.

I rarely have watched more than a few minutes of this show as I'm not a fan of Boomer and think Carton is a blowhard. Watched it this morning and Boomer had Phil Simms as a guest host and only spoke about Carton for about a minute or so.

Was never a fan of Carton. I first heard him in the early 90's when he did weekends and filled in on 610 WIP (Philadelphia's sports talk station, which is now on FM). Always was kind of arrogant and brash for no particularly good reason. Glad I didn't listen to his gambling advice back then.

"For 10 years I've had the great privilege of showing up to work every day at my dream job,” Carton said in a statement. “I have nothing but love and respect for my co-host, the show and the entire CBS Radio family and I've always tried to represent them in the best possible light.

 

“Unfortunately, the unfounded legal issues currently plaguing me will only be a distraction to everyone at WFAN and the show I helped build. With that in mind, I have submitted my resignation to the station and they accepted. I am sad to see this chapter of my life close but know that it will allow me to focus on my family, my well-being and clearing my name, while giving the show the best opportunity to succeed without further disruption.”

 

Federal authorities arrested Carton last week, saying in papers filed in Manhattan Federal Court that he tried to raise millions of dollars in 2016 to pay gambling debts owed to casinos and others.

 

Authorities said Carton falsely told investors that he and others could score big profits by selling large blocks of tickets to acts including Katy Perry, Adele, Justin Bieber and Barbra Streisand.

 

Carton, 48, of Manhattan, remains free on $500,000 bail.
