Waggener 65 North Oldham 13

A big time offensive explosion by Waggner. Congrats to that program.

Great job by the Wildcats. Really impressed by what Coach Johnson has done in his 2+ seasons, resurrecting a program that hadn't won more than a couple of games in a season in years. Back to back 6-5 seasons his first two seasons, and a nice bounce-back win over North this week.

Forty-plus yard pass on 4th and 7 from near midfield on the first possession of the game led to Waggener's first score and set the tone. Without their kicker (he showed up late due to a soccer game), Waggener went for, and got, the two point conversion to go up 8-0. Moments later, they made it 16-0, but the Mustangs rallied with a 65 yard TD pass from Tanner McCoy to Brandon Rose to pull within 16-6.

From there, though, Waggener was just too big and too fast on both sides of the ball. It was a running clock in the second quarter, 51-7 at the half, and 65-13 final.

Waggener has a very small roster, but the kids on that roster are talented - big, fast, and skilled. Easy to see why so many D1 schools are visiting St. Matthews this fall.

Best of luck to Waggener the rest of the way this year...

To North - hang in there. Games like this happen when a team is in the midst of rebuilding, particularly when trying to get used to a new coaching staff / system. (head coach's second season, but most of the staff is new this year) I doubt it would have changed the outcome of this game, but it certainly also wasn't the night to have three of the team's better athletes out due to injury!

North took it on the chin in week 1 against Louisville Western but bounced back with a solid effort against county rival Oldham County the next week....we'll see if they can repeat that next Friday, when they will try to get past this loss by facing their other county rival, the South Oldham Dragons. That's typically a very good game, regardless of records...

Interestingly, North coach Joe Gamsky played linebacker at South Oldham and later was an assistant under current South head coach Jamie Reed. In addition, multiple North assistants were former players at South...

I feel bad for the kids at North Oldham. They had one very good football coach ( Billy Martin) that built the North program into a winner year in year out ( one hell Mary play away from a state championship game) Billy took over the program that had several winless seasons and taught them how to win. Now look at the program 13 straight loses since Coach Martin departure. The Mustangs have been outscored by a average of 40 to 15 over those 13 games. Looks like you dropped the ball here North Oldham administration. BILLY'S HOUSE!!!!

Yes, but the wealthy and well-placed parents of the kids who aren't very talented are at least getting to see their kids get the crud kicked out of them every Friday. This is what occurs when an administration allows parents to control the show.

AMEN TO THAT!!!

North Oldham used to put a running clock on Wagonner in the second quarter now its the other way around
