WAYNE COUNTY 45 WOODFORD COUNTY 7

This was my first trip to Danville and my first time seeing both of these teams play.

First there were no programs being handed out like there was on Friday night at Lincoln County, nor was there any being sold. I am using a roster from Woodford County that Malik Richardson's grandparents gave me. For Wayne County I am using the roster that is posted on maxpreps.com.

After one quarter of play this has been just a three point game, but after all was said and done Wayne County had turned on the offense and used a powerful looking defense, to post a 38 point win.

Defense started out right away in this one, With Jake Wright 6-3 / 235 posting two tackles for Wayne County, including a sack on Q. Turner, with just :53 seconds off of the clock. The two tackles help the defense to get off the field very fast.

When Wayne County got the ball they needed just 3-plays to go 50-yards for the game's first score. German Ruiz 5-6 / 172 would go 39-yards untouched to the end zone. The point after by Riley Woods 6-2 / 210 made this a 7-0 game, with 9:39 left in the quarter.

Ben Nash had his number called for Woodford County at the 9:23 mark and he picked up 3-yards. The drive ended :27 later when Turner was picked offf by Bryce Howard. Howard is a nice looking player, who had a good night.

Jayden Hamilton of Woodford County stopped Cagen Wallace 5-5 / 125 for a 3-yard loss, at the 8:27 mark. Facing 4th and two, Wayne County elected to go for it and that turned out for the good when, THE NEWARK CATHOLIC FAN PLAYER OF THE GAME LORENZO LINSEY 6-2 / 205 hit, Stetson Simpson 6-1 / 190 for a gain of 15-yards. Simpson used a sweet spin move to get the first. with 7:01 left. Riley Woods 6-2 / 210 ended the drive with a 27-yard field goal, giving Wayne County a 10-0 lead, with a little under five minutes left in the quarter.

Woodford's Brennan Clark electrified the crowd, with a 73-yard touchdown run, then after the point after kick by Joey Whitehead, we had a 10-7 game, with 4:20 remaining in the opening quarter.

Linsey found #1 Aubrey Weaver 6-0 / 175 wide opened good for a 20-yar gain, with 4:09 left. The drive came to an abrupt end when Linsey was picked off by,JD Alexander, with 2:35 left.

Woodford would go to the ground with 1:49 showing on the clock, but Wayne County was ready for that , with Jake Wright 6-3 / 235 stopping Brennan Clark for a 4-yard loss. The quarter ended with the game staying 10-7 Wayne County.

The Woodford defense was able to keep their fans in this one with, Dawson Switzer, Lucas Brocato and Jayshaun Coffman teaming up to stop Linsey inches short of a first down, on a 3rd and 1 call, with 11:05 left in the half. Linsey used some fine work of his offensive line to pick up the first down on the 4th and inches called, with 10:44 showing on the clock. The drive ended on a 30-yard touchdown run by,Cagen Wallace 5-5 / 125. The point after kick was successful to give the Cardinals a 17-7 lead, at the 7:07 mark of the half.

The Wayne County offense was back at it again late in the half, and with 50:8 Linsey connected with Weaver, who ran a nice route and used a nice move to get open, for a 33-yard score. The point after made this a 24-7 game and the route was on. The drive totaled 64 yards and took 10-plays.

1.7 seconds later Turner was picked of by the Cardinals Bryce Howard to give his team the ball, on the Yellow Jackets 23-yard line.

From there it took just five plays for the Cardinals to score again. The score came on a 15-yard Linsey pass to Howard, who was wide opened. After the point after kick this was a 31-7 game, with 10:5 left in the half.

At the 11:39 mark of the final frame Linsey was sacked for a 9-yard loss by John Stork.

With 9:50 left in the third #89(not on the roster) teamed up with Chris Dunagan 5-11 / 175 to stop Ben Nash for a loss of three.. The Cardinals defense was very stingy in this one, especially after the Yellow Jackets only score.

The last score of the game came off a beautiful Linsey pass to Weaver, that went for 37-yards. The point after kick made this a 45-7 game, with 11:46 left.

They started slow but then the receivers along with the QB took over. Teams will have to try and stop 4 good receivers along with a running game, that did not look to shabby. Wayne County defense looked good but to be honest Woodford had no passing game besides little swing passes, that were completely covered. The run defense by Wayne County stood tall in this one,I think it was a great job done by the guys up front.

You guys I.M.O. will/should have a very deep playoff run.
