May 3, 20179 yr So when is the government going to start bringing anti-trust laws into play when it comes to all of these brewery purchases? Same government that let AT&T and Direct TV merge.
May 3, 20179 yr Author What % of the beer drinking market purchases craft beer on a regular occasion? 15%? I have zero idea how accurate it is, but I've recently heard that craft beer makes up about 10% now. A few years ago it was just 3% of the market. Depends on whose number you use and how they define "craft" too.
May 3, 20179 yr Author I don't really think it is a big deal that A/B owns so many craft breweries. To me the bigger issue is their efforts to control distributors. I read a very interesting article recently about A/B involvement with distributors and how it has affected Yuenglings recent entry into Mississippi. I'm fine with them owning as many as the want, but attempts to reduce consumer access to other non A/B breweries is where I take issue. The power move they pulled about a year ago by giving bonuses to distribution companies if they had a certain amount of their products on the shelves is the crap that I don't like. Probably similar to the article you read.
May 3, 20179 yr This and the AT&T and DirecTV merger... Still not following you. There are what a dozen or so major/mid major tv providers and the government allowed 2 of them to merge without blinking. Why would they care if AB bought one of over thousands of little beer companies?
May 3, 20179 yr Author I'm in a Cincy Craft Beer group on facebook and while many are hating on this for the same reasons that we have mentioned, there are still others that are shedding a positive light on it by suggesting that maybe this will help increase their distribution into OH/KY.

That's the only positive I can think of with this. Really hopeful we start seeing it up this way down the road.
May 3, 20179 yr What TV service did AT&T own/provide before they merged with DirecTV? I'm not aware of any... Uverse
May 3, 20179 yr Uverse Didn't know they owned them. Thanks. Still, at their height, they had 3.8 million households. I don't consider that a major provider.

May 3, 20179 yr Makes my point even more relevant then. Not really. AT&T is not/was not a TV provider on any kind of scale. They for the most part bought into/acquired a new business segment. Why should the government not allow that? What AB is doing is creating a monopoly.

I think you will see this. Might take a little bit, but look what has happened with Elysian out of Washington. I never saw their products pre A/B but now they are widely available, especially Space Dust IPA.
