What do the baseball guru's out there think about these rankings? Are they close, way off, etc. Im more of a basketball guy myself, just curious as to what the BGP community thinks.

I've always thought rankings were just not that important to be honest. On any given day anyone can beat anyone in baseball for the most part. I look through the list and see that we (Ryle) have faced 7 of the top 25, 1 of the "Bubble" teams and will face Cooper who's in the "next 5"...Like I said, any given day as we and our 7-12 record have beaten Highlands (vs. Rhom), lost 2-1 vs. Conner (balk scored winning run), lost 3-2 vs. Male, lost 11-7 vs. Scott Co, but then lost handily to St. X, Cov Cath (2x) and tied Campbell Co. 5-5 (suspended in 5th). Sometimes I think it's really hard to say who are the top 25 until they play each other....I've always wondered how national H.S. rankings are done when the people putting them on the list never see them play.

Agreed. I will add that it also takes pitching depth to get through the regions and state tourneys. Who has the most depth on the mound in the 9th? Is Cooper deep? I know Highlands is.

Highlands is very deep but it so far it hasn't made the difference for them although I never count them out. It takes 1 small run at the right time. Cooper is deep as well but for some reason they haven't put it together consistently but again, it takes a small run so you never know...just look at their basketball season, doubt anyone had them picked for the state finals.

I'd anticipate Conner moving up the rankings ladder after beating both Campbell County and Madison Central last week.

Don't care so much for the rankings unless you are number 1 at the end of the season.

Does anyone have a breakdown by Region? Because this is what it really boils down to in order to get a state playoff birth ...

KHSAA.org has Regional standings when you search by school in the Schedules & Scores section

Just playing ranked teams doesn't raise you in the rankings, you need to win a few of those. Ryles 8 wins comes against 6 teams with a combined record of 51-70, 3 of those teams have a combined record of 12-42.

I can agree with your argument that Ryle may be better than their record shows but,

As in any sport, it's not how your season starts, it's how it ends
