I haven't seen any official confirmation, but I would assume it has something to do with this:

The girls’ basketball coach for Western Hills High School had papers served on him by a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy after Friday night’s basketball game sparking social media interest and speculation regarding what was contained in the documents.

Under an open records request, a copy of the criminal summons served on Raymond “Buddy” Ritchie Jr., 49, indicates he faces charges in Franklin District Court on fourth-degree assault and second-degree disorderly conduct for allegedly punching Randall Pritchett in the face during an argument at a middle school girls’ basketball game on Aug. 25, 2015.

The summons alleges Ritchie “intentionally or wantonly caused physical injury to another person” by getting into an argument and striking Pritchett and committed the offense of disorderly conduct by causing public annoyance or alarm by “screaming and yelling profanity at the ref and others who attended the game.”

Ritchie declined to comment to The State Journal regarding the charges, which are both misdemeanors. He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, in Franklin District Court.

According to the report attached to the summons, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office had no knowledge of the case beyond being asked to serve the papers.

I came across the opening on the KHSAA's website, and when I Googled Coach Ritchie, that's what I came up with. That was my mistake on the dates.

Coach resigning had to do with his retirement.

 

Have not heard any news on candidates.

If, I remember correctly Buddy was very successful as the head softball coach at Midway College in the late 90's early 2000's. I would think that he will end up back in softball in some capacity somewhere.
