BigVMan23
I really never knew what Cotillion was. We had it when I was in school as well, but it was something that was way off my radar and I nor any of my buddies ever participated. Just recently I found out I had several 8th graders I coach participate in Cotillion and I found out more about what it is. I never knew that, not only is it a formal dance/social outing, but they have classes leading up to it to learn how to properly "act" for the outing. Pretty cool and I kinda wish I had done it back in the day. Anyone here ever do it or have kids that have/will?
littleluck55
I have not heard of it. Time to fire up the Google machine.
doomer
I seem to remember that my youngest did. He was the only one of the mini-doomers who attended the 8th grade in Lexington, and he went to Mary Queen in Lexington. It has been a while though. I will ask him. I am all for cultural/etiquette training for our kids. Both boys played college sports, and both colleges - Marshall particularly - invested in their athletes and required them to attend trainings for proper etiquette and effective communicating. This would be a great thing to do earlier in the lives of our youths.
Content1
Unless someone is aspiring to be an ambassador, work in formal dining, or ballroom dancing...no thank you! A few buddies in middle school got dragged to cotillion by their parents and basically learned the fox trot, proper silverware placement, and dining etiquette. We all joked it was a high brow match making service where no matches were made. I kinda like using the salad fork for my entree at a formal dinner just to see who it might offend! ; )
mcpapa
Sorta related. Back in the '70s, all freshman girls had to take a class in the social graces taught by Mignon Doran. PDI. Personal Development Institute.
