March 1, 20179 yr School says Islam is one of many religions, including Christianity, that are taught. Says Islam is taught for 3 days. The School District of the Chathams delivers a curriculum that meets and exceeds the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Said standards include subject matter on all of the world's major religions, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and other faiths. The school district's curriculum reflects these standards and takes a balanced and thoughtful approach to how they are taught. The lessons on Islam that some of our parents have raised as an issue comprise approximately three days out of a 180-day school year. Further, in the scope of our full curriculum, content addressing Islam does not represent a disproportionate amount of time or resources. It receives a treatment similar to the other world religions, as outlined by New Jersey's state standards.
March 1, 20179 yr Dismiss? I'm saying we may not be getting the entire story. Are we? I'm inclined to believe the parents instead of always dismissing anything conservative Christians say like a lot the non-believers on here. But that's just me. March 1, 20179 yr I'm inclined to believe the parents instead of always dismissing anything conservative Christians say like a lot the non-believers on here. But that's just me. Do you believe the school that it's part of a comprehensive lesson plan on world religions?
March 1, 20179 yr Do you believe the school that it's part of a comprehensive lesson plan on world religions? I DON'T believe the school spends 3 days on each religion and requiring them memorize bible verses, etc.
March 1, 20179 yr Author If Islam was the only religion discussed I can see the concern. However, if it's one of many religions they study then it's nothing. No other religion was ever brought up in course study.
March 1, 20179 yr No other religion was ever brought up in course study. So the school system statement is a lie?
March 1, 20179 yr Author So the school system statement is a lie? So the parents and their children are?
March 1, 20179 yr So the parents and their children are? Have you never seen parents use their children for an agenda?
March 1, 20179 yr Author Why would the school lie? Why would the parents, they said the teacher taught about the other regions and when they talked about N America they never brought up religion that the middle east was the only region that they were made to study a religion.
March 1, 20179 yr Author Have you never seen parents use their children for an agenda? Have you ever seen a school board back a teacher that was wrong?
March 1, 20179 yr Have you ever seen a school board back a teacher that was wrong? I've seen both actually
March 1, 20179 yr Author I've seen both actually Exactly. The machine protects its own and parents protect theirs. Just being me I tend to believe parents protecting their own before a machine saving face.... Just my opinion.
March 1, 20179 yr Exactly. The machine protects its own and parents protect theirs. Just being me I tend to believe parents protecting their own before a machine saving face.... Just my opinion. Well I've also seen parents trying to push an agenda by deliberately misrepresenting an issue. It's naive to think all parents are good parents just like it is to believe all school administrators are good ones.
March 1, 20179 yr Thread title question: how do you know liberals did this? I had to do this twice and a both were from very conservative Christians in Hs and college.
