The NBA in Louisville?

Featured Replies

Is Louisville ready for an NBA team? The reason I ask is because the Louisville Metro Council unanimously passed a resolution that would allow support for an NBA team in Louisville. Louisville Metro Councilman Dan Johnson says "he believes there will be an NBA team in Louisville within the next year and a half."

I can't see any current teams relocating at the moment, but Seattle is looking to add a franchise as well, so there have been talks about a two team expansion. Seattle would obviously be the Western Conference team under that scenario. With Louisville already having an NBA worthy arena in place, it seems they would be a likely choice for the Eastern Conference.

Sorry I don't have a link to an article at the moment as I haven't found one, though I imagine one will be posted soon. Heather Fountaine with WHAS is who posted the tweets though, so there may be some traction here.

The NBA isn't coming to Louisville.

Dan Johnson has been on a weird crusade about this in recent weeks and, frankly, I don't understand it.

This would be pretty awesome, but unless U of L games start selling out standing room only for seasons at a time it can't happen.

Attendance numbers at UofL couldn't be more irrelevant.

Would the existence of a market of elite basketball fans be relevant?

I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but the city of Louisville (and the surrounding markets) has fans of teams other than Louisville in it. The attendance of UofL games has zero relevance to the topic...

Thanks to the both of you for patronizing me. Yes I'm aware there are non Louisville fans in Louisville as I was not born yesterday.

Do you think ITS POSSIBLE that when the NBA was approached by whoever about putting a team in Louisville thought and asked, "How's the attendance at the city's current highest level of basketball?"

Is there a slight possibility that a city's division 1 basketball attendance could be a factor, or is it completely irrelevant?

Very very very low on the list.

I think an NBA team would do very well in Louisville.

An NBA team would be third on the list, AT BEST.

Agreed, as long as they were the away team.
