Mason was down 8 after third quarter and cut it to six several times in the fourth. Mason down 9 or 10 and get back to back technicals and never scored another point the rest of the game. Was out scored 20-10 in the fourth.

Cardinals Defeat Royals: First Win vs Mason County Since 2012

 

 

Add another first for the Boys Varsity Basketball team. Last night’s, 79-61, win at Mason County was the first against the Royals since the 2012 10th Region Championship at Montgomery County. It was also the first at Mason County since 2011.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead at 13-5 with 2:55 remaining in the first quarter. The teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the quarter as the Cardinals led, 20-12. PJ Williams led the Cardinals in the quarter with 7 points. The Cardinals had 11 rebounds in the first quarter to only 4 rebounds for Mason County.

With 2:12 remaining in the second quarter, the Cardinals led, 31-18. However, the Royals called timeout to regroup. Mason County closed out the first half on a run of 12-7. GRC led at halftime, 38-30. Ryan Cooper led the Cardinals with 5 points in the second quarter.

With 3:10 remaining in the third quarter, the Cardinals led, 55-40. However, the Royals battled back. Mason County closed out the third quarter on a run of 11-4. GRC led after three quarters, 59-51. Ryan Cooper led the Cardinals with 8 points in the quarter.

The Royals made 2 free throws with 5:25 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut the Cardinals’ lead to only 4 at 64-60. The Cardinals went on a run of 6-1 behind baskets from Jordan Graham, Ryan Cooper, and Will Philpot. This made the score, 70-61 with 4:02 remaining. Mason County failed to score the remainder of the contest. With 3:11 remaining in the game, Jaylen Lofton of Mason County received a technical foul. Soon after, Coach Buddy Biggs of Mason County received a bench foul. The Cardinals scored 9 unanswered points following the technical fouls to win the game, 79-61.
