Rockers/ Singers/Musicians Still Going Strong After All These Years!!!

Featured Replies

Folks, in this thread I'm looking to read about musicians/singers that are still going strong after decades of performing. I believe that the true test for greatness is performing at the highest level over a long period of time. Some musicians today will no longer be heard or thought of a few years from now. Their music won't stand the test of time.

What I want you share with me and others here are those who have stood the test of time. Let's say at least 25 years. Who are some of your favorites from '91 or before are still going strong? We are talking musical greatness. Legendary performers . 25, 30, 40 years or more and still making great music.

Let me begin this thread with a guy who turned 69 yesterday. And no, as a performer he has definitely NOT "turned to stone." From a festival earlier this year, please enjoy Mr Jeff Lynne. He still is at the top of his game. Anyone like this guy like I do?

Love Jeff Lynne. Started being a huge ELO fan in my early teens and ran home from school many days to play my ELO albums.

Highly influenced by the likes of the Beatles and The Stones, Welsh born Karl Wallinger of World Party has since the 80's prolifically penned many magnificent tunes within his whole nice body of work.

Notice that he plays left handed with an upside down guitar.

In 2001 Karl suffered and survived a brain aneurysm and after a long road back he resumed touring in 2006. It was a privilege to see him perform in 2007 at the Southgate House in Newport, Ky and to shake hands and to chat with him after the show.

Any lovers of British influenced classic pop/rock would be doing themselves a huge favor to check out the brilliance of Karl Wallinger (World Party) whose songwriting is right on par with many of the greats.

Previous to him fronting World Party, during the 80's he was also a member of the band The Waterboys whose most famous song is probably "The Whole of The Moon" for those who might recall that fine number.

Some notable World Party songs would be:

Is it Like Today

Put The Message in the Box

She's the One

Ship of Fools

Way Down Now

Beautiful Dream

Anthony Dominick Benedetto...... 67 years in the business and still going strong!!!

Had the great fortune of seeing Tony Bennett in concert at the Aronoff Center in downtown Cincinnati 20 years ago, and I thought that it was amazing then that he was still at it at 70, and it blows my mind that he still is today at 90. What a legend!

ELO is one of my favorite bands of all time. Jeff Lynne is one of the greats. Loved him in The Traveling Wilburys, too.

Chuck Berry, 90, regularly performed one Wednesday each month at Blueberry Hill, a restaurant and bar located in St. Louis from 1996-2014

Berry announced on his 90th birthday that his first new studio album since Rock It in 1979, entitled Chuck, will be released in 2017. His first new record in 38 years, it also features his children, Charles Berry Jr. and Ingrid, on guitar and harmonica, whom Chuck calls "the Blueberry Band," with songs "covering the spectrum from hard-driving rockers to soulful thought-provoking time capsules of a life's work" and dedicated to his wife of 68 years.

Chubby Checker and I share the same birthday(month and day, NOT year :) )

Here's the Chubster rocking the twist on his 73rd birthday with noneother than FOGHAT !!!! The guy can still do it !!!!

Distinctively gravelly vocalist and front man for the Scottish band Nazereth known for their hits "Love Hurts" and "Hair of the Dog" Dan McCafferty still getting out there and rockin' at 70.

Some might recall the 80's German metal band Accept and their biggest hit "Balls to the Wall" but all of these years lead singer Udo Dirkschneider has carried the metal torch with his own band U.D.O. putting out 15 solo albums and remaining relevant in Europe and Russia with his last release being in 2015.

Udo is now 64 and an elder statesman of heavy metal still going strong.

I've spent many a night at the same venue as this man, as he entertained me and thousands of others. At age 15, "Reggie" was playing piano at English pubs and singing Jim Reeves songs. 54 years later , "Captain Fantastic," Sir Elton Hercules John or Reginald Kenneth Dwight, still performs at a very high level. I hope to see him several more times before either he or I gives up the ghost. Here's an amazing performance from '76(back when he DIDN'T have hair) , just Elton and piano, playing one of my favorite Elton tunes, "Someone Saved My Life Tonight."
