2017 Bowl games you will attend

Featured Replies

Unsure of the name of the bowl, but the four Warren County schools will play in a bowl at WKU, August 26.

Greenwood vs. Warren East (5:00 pm)

South Warren vs. Warren Central (8:00 pm)

Do you all like the bowl games?

As a fan I love it.

The games are fun. The jacked up prices are not.

Bowl games in virtually every HS situation I know of serve another purpose than just highlighting programs and (hopefully) providing good games & chance to see different teams. They also serve a a primary fundraiser for the host program or school. I know in many cases it may be the one week a season that the gate & concession money goes to the football team. In some cases the Bowl may benefit the entire athletic program as it does with the Bob Allen Pigskin Classic in Danville & some others. At any rate while I would agree it is tough to pay exorbitant prices to see HS sports, it can be a very good way to support your local HS program & enjoy the time spent a lot more than baking that cookie dough or Little Ceasars Pizza kit.

I mean, I'm just saying that it's tough to take a family of 5 to a high school bowl game and drop $100 for football.

Absolutely understand that. And that being said I'm going to encourage our Bowl commitee to include a student & child rate for entry. While the overall concept of a flat rate price is good for many reasons, It isn't exactly family friendly.

On that line of thinking, what is a fair price for admission to a Bowl. Typically Double Header, perhaps other events & attractions going on & keeping in mind it is a fundraising event typically.

That's my plan as well. Never been to Danville for a game. Saw their stadium last year. Shame the Rebel Bowl at Boyle County in Danville is the following weekend. As for Death Valley Bowl, I just enjoy the games at Stanford. Will be my third year going. Seeing a game in Tennessee on Thursday most likely.

I will stay in Ohio on Thursday at catch Maysville at Newark Catholic. With NC having so many Friday games, I won't be seeing them as much.

Why is that? I always find it interesting when a school rents out a stadium, they don't want people working when their game is going on elsewhere. Steubenville ALWAYS hosts SCC games on Saturday night. Warren always has JFK games on Saturday night unless Harding somehow plays on a Saturday themselves (or Thursday).

I have heard that it is so fans do not have to miss the Ohio State games.

Tradition seems not to matter.

Coach Franks, I am guessing is behind the change.

I believe two years ago most of their home games were also on Friday night.

They have two Thursday games.

Maysville and Johnstown.

Newark's a bit too far for me to make the Thursday night trip. Especially with Pittsburgh or Parma having a game nearby. Along with the ALF game in Clarion Co. PA and a few Youngstown Thursday games due to off-days for schools (Niles-Howland and the regular Thursday openers).

As for the Bowl pricing, I'd have to say $10 is probably a bit high. If you're getting two games, there should be a bit of a discount compared to just paying for two games ($5/gm). Something like $8 makes more sense if it's just at a HS venue. $10 if it's somewhere like WKU, EKU, Papa Johns, UK, etc.

I am using Friday's as a vacation day, so that I will be able to take in some Thursday games a little further away this season.

I am also planing on taking in some of the day games on Friday from Cleveland and then staying in the are for some night games.

I want to see Brunswick again, at their place and I want to see Lodi Cloverleaf, for the first time ever.

Collinwood looks like a great venue. Have driven by it a few times, and almost went to the Senate League championship on a Saturday afternoon last year. I would love to see JFK now that they have turf. A great old-time venue to see is Chagrin Falls, but that's a bit of a haul between a 3pm game at JFK and a 7pm start in Chagrin Falls. Cleveland Heights is another great one, and just down the road from Collinwood.

This year, with a 1yo, I'm not going to try that hard to get to a Thursday night game. I want to go to the ALF game at Redbank Valley PA, and the Niles-Howland game, but other than Week 1, I'll just take it easy. Still waiting to see if Spectrum (former TWC Sports) airs Thursday night games again.
