Had a cousin in attendance for this one and she said the officiating was downright terrible. Said most calls went against Brossart, and she NEVER says that. My guess is Mustangs were bitten by 16th Region referees, who are terrible historically.

For some reason, Fair and Impartial both remained in the officials' locker room in this one, making for a frustrating and disappointing conclusion to what has been an upbeat and positive tournament for the Mustangs, including our three game stint in the Mike Swauger Classic a week ago.

 

On the positive side, two sophomores, J.D. Schumacher (12) and Bryson Wieland (11) combined for 23 of our 42 points and continue to receive valuable experience on a nightly basis. Senior Bryce Kremer came from off the bench again today and provided an additional 9 points.

 

The two teams slugged it out to a 16-all draw at the half, in sixteen minutes of varsity basketball that might have caused Dr. Naismith to reconsider inventing the game. The pace quickened in the second half as we were outscored 33-26 allowing the Raiders to claim third place in the Stultz Pharmacy Holiday Classic.

 

The Mustangs who my color man and myself felt were being battered and abused found themselves in Play On mode, while the locals were the beneficiaries of phantom fouls and a totally unwarrented technical. To say the least, they made it really, really tough on us, a young team feeling our way, who have enough to overcome lest biased officiating. We were outscored from the charity stripe 15/22 to 6/9 in a contest where the Raiders by their very style of play were the aggressors.
