Cardinals Defuse Chargers, 62-46, Behind Philpot’s 19/18 Performance

 

 

 

(Mrs. Judy Rose congratulates Will Philpot as the Player of the Game in the Central Bank Jim Rose Classic. Will led all players with 19 points and 18 rebounds.)

 

One game, he is dunking against Ashland. The next game, he almost achieves a 20/20. However, if you would ask Will Philpot, I believe that he would say that he is just a team player. That goes for the rest of the team, as well – team players. The team is now, 6-4. The Cardinals won their third game in a row for the first time this season.

 

The Cardinals opened up a lead of 9-3 with 5:06 remaining in the first quarter after PJ Williams splashed a trey. The teams would trade baskets for most of the quarter. PJ Williams had 6 points behind 2 treys. JJ Johnson and Will Philpot had 4 points each. GRC led at the end of the first quarter, 18-11.

 

The big play of the second quarter came with 3:09 remaining. PJ Williams and Will Philpot grabbed successive offensive rebounds. Chase Taylor eventually found PJ Williams in the corner for another trey to make the score, 27-16. The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter. Jordan Graham led the Cardinals with 6 points. GRC led at halftime, 32-21.

 

The Chargers remained on the Cardinals’ heels throughout the third quarter. GRC led, 40-31, with 1:25 remaining. Will Philpot stepped up and completed an “and one” to put the Cardinals up by 12. He made another bucket to give him 7 points for the quarter. GRC led, 45-33.

 

Jeffersontown cut the lead to 9 at 53-44 after an “and one” midway through the fourth quarter. The teams traded buckets for the next minute of play. The Chargers began to foul the Cardinals in order to extend the game. Jordan Graham hit 2 free throws. Chase Taylor made 1 with 2:05 remaining to give the Cardinals a 12-point lead at 58-46. On the next possession down the floor, Jordan Graham made a monster block to send a message that there would be no Charger comeback tonight. The final score was 62-46.

The Varsity Cardinals (6-4, 1-0) will return to action in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic High School on Tuesday, December 27th at 3PM. The Cardinals will play the winner of Breathitt County (6-4) and Marina, CA

I was merely giving him props for having a tremendous game. Never one time did I say he was better than anyone else. Your name is Cards Cheerleader Mom but you sound like a jealous hypocrite that Wiil had a great game. You need to keep cheering for the cards and quit worrying about me giving Will his props for having a great game. You are coming across as a disgruntled parent. By the way, Will's father is a great guy and Will is lucky to have him in his life.
