While I'm not a head football coach I am a head coach of other sports and I will say the admin at sports friendly schools are more lenient about some things than non coaches.

Nobody cares if Betty Jo English teacher that goes home after school everyday is anything less than excellent

Why? Coaches spend more time for less with these kids than anyone including their parents. Think about it. If you're in the school building that's 7 hrs tack on a 2hr practice and that's at least 9hrs out of the day. Not only that but most coaches are responsible for these kids until their guardians come pick them up an hour after practice is over. Kid gets in trouble outside of school, who do they call...Coach. Kids needs a reference for a job, who do they call...Coach. So why would it sadden anyone that these men that spend more and give more to our kids than their own families get some type of leniency?

I am not sure what exactly leniency is, but if I have standards for the professionals in my building that I believe are best for the students and/or how the school runs, then making a choice to take on extra responsibilities should not excuse anyone from those standards. Think about it... crazy thought to believe that everyone doing the SAME job teaching should have the SAME standards.

Wrong! Majority of teachers get out of that parking lot before the students do. About 10% of the general staff actually give a care and do what you are suggesting. Oldbird maybe you've been out the system too long because what you're are claiming is not happening. I've never once had an Administrator tell me to call a students science teacher...I'm just saying

Only if this was true. But you don't see the other teachers having there classrooms interrupted to deal with an unruly athlete...It's a double standard however you want to dress it up. Fair or unfair Coaches usually have more of an intimate relationship then General Ed Teachers do. So the Admin uses this to their advantage.

It should sadden everyone that I wear jeans some days instead of khakis and I don't have a morning duty because I don't get home from practice until 10:00 at night and home from games until 1:00 in the morning depending on where we have to travel. Yeah, I can see why everyone should be saddened by this:rolleyes:

If there are standards that the admin feels are best for the students and the schools to run optimally and these are relaxed for certain individuals simply because they coach, then that is a sad.

I know you are arguing they should be held to a lower standard (leniency), but I think it should be the same standard.

Pretty sure me wearing jeans doesn't affect my performance or the schools performance. And me not having a morning duty doesn't affect the schools performance so....
